D&D 5E Unarmored melee character

I am looking to play an unarmored melee character. I like multiclassing and am just thinking about some interesting options.

I was kinda thinking of:

Sorcerer paladin
Barbarian
Monk fighter
Barbarian Druid monk

Just looking for some ideas, thanks in advance!

I feel Wis is more important than Con, making monk the better unarmored class. If you don't plan on raising above Wis16, draconic and mage armor works too.

BTW, if you start barbarian, you'll never gain monk's unarmored defense. It's one or the other.

Isn't Draconic bloodline armor also it's own thing? It isn't a +x to armor, IIRC, it is 13+dex, so it will not stack with either of the other unarmored defenses.

Yeah, they all more or less get you to AC 15-16.

Monk
Barbarian
Sorcerer

You can use a shield with the sorcerer and barbarian but they more or less all get you to the same place.

You don't even need to have monk/barbarian/sorcerer levels. Just take the Magic Initiate feat, choose mage armour as your 1st level spell (it lasts for eight hours!) and you can still choose an attack cantrip and prestidigitation to make sure you always look (and smell) good!

Yes, but you can choose either later on. Whereas the second unarmored defense does not exist at all for you.

In terms of just AC it's better to go with CON than WIS.

CON is double dipping then in survivability. More HP and more miss chance for opponents.

Personally, I'd go monk. I played one for a while, and having a good AC in addition to being able to dodge as a bonus action makes you extremely hard to hit. Plus you can stun the socks of the enemies you're fighting.

Sorcerer/paladin with a shield and defensive fighting style could have an AC 19 by 3rd level, assuming 16 Dex/16 Cha.
