Undead?Dread necromancer?

First Post
Im wondering what happenes if a undead creature takes the dread necromancer class. What abilities does he get? What abilities does he not get? Obviouly he can not become a lich at 20th level. The undead in question is a shadow Ive been playing for a while.

Honestly it would be up to you DM,

If in my game I'd allow the normal progression thourgh the Dread Necro class but you'd lose out on the undead quailities that I believe the Dread Necro get. Maybe allow you to gain a feat...but dunno...as for the lich transformation I'd even allow that but it would not be an easy feat to accomplish as you are already undead, and most likely would be a story arch of some kind.

The Shadow gets boned from nearly all the spell casting power..

Shadows cannot speak intelligibly.
It must take silent spell to cast anything with a verbal component.

Incorporeal
It can’t any spell that needs a divine focus and it has to take Eschew materials for any spell with a material component. I believe it cant even use it’s rebuke undead power without a Divine focus either.

Damage reduction

What about the damage redution? Do you think I would get that? There is a incorporeal creature in the libris mortis that has damage reduction. I think its a dream spawn. My dm said since im paying for it I might be able to add the lich template. But I would have to use a wish and maybee sacrifice a artifact, and then some. We know it breaks the rules but why can only a lich build a phylactery. Besides it would really add some flavor.

my character

If anyone is curious I have
+2 level adujustment drow
+1 level evoled undead
3 levels of rogue
2 levels of champion of undead/ Its out of the book of undead a non dungeons and dragons d20 book
10 levels of shadow out of savage spieces
6 levels of greater shadow/ Dm worked that out from monster manual
3 levels of redeemed spawn

For a total of 27 levels
I played him from first level

I don't see any reason you wouldn't get the lich template, despite being (ordinarily) illegal. The specific overrides the general. There are already precedents: the Dragon Disciple turning half dragon with no LA, a spell that applies the fiendish template to undead, monks treat unarmed strikes as manufactured weapons, and so forth. A class ability should, IMO, give you exactly what it says it does.

Shadow lich just sounds cool

Well thanks for the ideas. My characters name is Azverauth the lord of shadows. But I hope to some day have him be known as the Shadow Lich. It just sounds dreadful. Hes in the process of creating a pretty mean undead army. Would you even want to go to war with someone who was called the shadow lich
