Undead Fort saves

Just curious now how undead fort saves work.

They are usually not required, but if the affect can also affect objects, then they are to be made.

What do they apply though? Their base save modifier + anything from magic obviously, but do they apply nothing from con, or a -5 penalty (from a 0 con), or use their charisma modifier for their fort save?

Probably the most common thing that causes undead Fort saves is disruption weapons. You look at that and think "DC 14, that doesn't sound too bad" until you see how crappy the fort save on most undead is. Even nightshades only range from +5 to +8.

In any case, undead do -not- get their Con modifier on Fort saves, at least not in the MM. Nightwings, for example, are 17 HD. Base save at the 'bad' rating for that HD is +5. The MM has them at +5. Their +4 charisma modifier does not apply.

Charisma only applies for Concentration checks for undead.

Actually strictly by the book only concentration gets the benefit of Cha instead of Con, the Fort Save is just Base + Magic + 0 (No Con), otherwise magical objects would have a -5 penalty to their saves vs disintegration.

Edit- Darn you IanB, I will have my revenge!

Right. Undead only get their base + any magic bonus + 0 (for Con) when making a Fort save against any effect that works on objects. Spells that affect living creatures and that require a Fort save do not affect undead. They are immune (pg 10 in the MM).
