First Post
Heya!

My group is just about to embark on an journey through the underdark, what I was hoping for are, some interesting creatures, scenery, societies, etc. that they could encounter in their journeys. Please feel free to post anything and everything related to the underdark.

Actually, they will hopefully soon escape slavery. (See thread below and feel free to help out there too!)

Thanks

I have deep humans in my game. They are good and have big cities that anyone can vist and trade.Even beholders, mind flayers etc.elforcelf. :D

Well, you obviously already covered the dark elves, so i guess what's left are Duegar. Maybe some Derrow? Perhaps even a Kuo-Tua or two? You really have a lot to chose from with the flora and fauna provided from all the Monster Manuals. Green Slimes and Oozes tend to be good traps for underground adventures. You got plenty of lost city ideas to incorparate. Lost temples of Ancient Gods long buried? This is your chance to use Destricaans (think i spelled it right) on the party in tight tunnel situations. hope this helps in a vague way. :D

For that matter, how about undead?

Shadow Dragons and Deep Dragons are usually found underground. Monsters of Faerun has the Shadow Dragon. I'm not sure where the Deep Dragons can be found but I'm certain they've been converted.

I'm not aware of any location-specific undead, but zombies and skeletons of all types seem to fit. Lichs' seem to be popular in most modules, and there is always room for ghosts.

If you read Piratecat's story hour, then ghoul's fit also....

The pathways to the Underdark are trade routes, well worn trade roads. Think conrol, if the area is controlled by good, you will met dwarf miners, patrols, if the area is between zones of good and evil you will meet your neutrals goblins, grimlocks, oozes, and such, this is the wilds.

Things that you find, ruins, underground lakes, waterfalls, bridges, stairs, small patrol towers, gated toll booths, mushroom forest, crystal forest.

This hasn't been updated to 3E/3.5E yet, but back in Dragon, not too terribly long ago, there was an entry for albino dragons, which were Underdark-specific monsters.

Sadly, this story is unfinished, but it takes place in the Underdark.

What I have recently gotten so thrilled about when imagining my Underdark is considering how important water is down there. My new favorite Underdark city has a ceiling barely fifteen feet high in most places, and in many places the cavern dips and is filled with water that slowly circulates over a many-dozen mile river system. The place is a maze to surface dwellers, but it's not much worse than Venice or New York City if you're familiar with it.

Dugeon 85 have a very nice Underdark adventure called "Lord of the Scarlet Tide" wich contains several interesting eviromental scenarios combined with some great fights and an infested shrine wich is very well made.
