Rules variants.
I suspect those variant metamagic rules that didn't make it into 3.5e might show up in UA.

Ezrael said:Am I entirely too much of a 1st Edition fanboy if I want them to bring back that huge series of polearms in the back of the original UA? I remember saying "Oh, that's what a bec de corbin looks like" when I first saw it.
Ezrael said:Monte could have released Arcana Unearthed without asking them, but he chose to do so, which was probably a smart move on his part.

Viva "Nomenclature of Polearms"! I know I was the only kid on my block who could identify a lucern hammer on sight.
I want my voulge-guisarme!
Ancient Gamer said:It's all a money grab. Come on, Unearthed Arcana for the "New & Improved" 3.5 Ed. Give me a moment, please. The original concept from my view (an RPG player/game master for over 22 years) was to provide an expansion of collected material from "The Dragon" for players of the AD&D system (first edition). I can not see how Dragon has anything to provide for 3.5 that would substantially provide enough material to warrent another book. Why doesn't WotC/HASBRO field a half decent survey to find out what the age's are for D&D, and what we want. Ok, so 3 Ed wasn't quite as prep'ed for the market as was thought, thus requiring the 3.5 Ed and what every anyone says, if I have to BUY a whole new set of core books to play a "better?" game, then it is a new Edition! Don't buy it then, some may say? Sorry, like many other die hard gamers (and as much as we bitch about the system), I've got to have it, just so I can have bitching rights![]()
...and yes I will more than likely pick up Unearthed Arcana, but it's still a money grab! Man what a vicious cycle! Psychology profs would have a field day writing about this addiction.
