For as long as mankind has been able to tell stories, he has spun tales of good versus evil, spread the word of the oppressed victim overcoming the dominating villain, and cited to legend the path of the righteous against his nemesis of selfishness. This concept of man searching to attain his purpose in the world by battling against sin and villainy has been known for thousands of years and will likely remain that way for thousands more to come. The roleplaying game is an extension of this storytelling. The player is propelled into a situation in which he must take the right path to conquer the obstacles placed before him or brings about his character’s death. To act as a guide to our characters, there are the nine alignments: lawful good, chaotic good, neutral good, lawful neutral, true neutral, chaotic neutral, lawful evil, neutral evil, and chaotic evil. Today, we take those alignments one step further.

- The Book of Alignment, page 7

Over three years in the making, The Book of Alignment is the ultimate guide to running an alignment campaign. More than just moral guides, alignments are the fabric of the fantasy game - the basis for which the battle of good vs. evil is fought in every adventure. But what if your alignment was more than a guiding light to virtue and sanctity? What if your alignment was a force in the universe, one that helped shaped all Life as we know it?

One of the unique features of The Book of Alignment are its hidden features. Using PDF layers, the Book contains several disguised articles and bonus content unavailable in conventional printed sourcebooks. Planned as one of the first sourcebooks to contain this feature, The Book of Alignment can be unlocked by clicking on the "Gem of True Seeing" layer found in the PDF (including the demo copy provided right now). Once this layer is activated, additional material will be displayed on top of or alongside the original content you have already read. Some of this material provides additional insights from contributing "authors" to the Book, while others provide a GM with advice and in-game text for introducing the Book to an existing campaign.

The Book of Alignment is still in production, but this demo provides a glimpse in the possibilities it offers. Introducing the concepts of triple alignments, true alignments, alignment archetypes, and a brief discussion of the Balance, these pages can open your eyes and show you a peek of what lies ahead in the Unknown.

This sounds quite interesting! I was looking forward to reading the demo, but clicking on the link took me to a "Product Not Found" page on the store. :(

Huh, that was weird. I made sure to check the link when I pasted it, but the site seems to convert the DTRPG link to the EN World/RPGNow store instead everytime. There will be a copy available on RPGNow as soon as they validate it. DTRPG is already set, but I've reset the link above to the original PDF on my server. Sorry about that, lads, and I'll make sure to update these as they're validated.

Got the preview, haven't yet had a chance to read it. But I did check out the Gem of True Seeing feature and it rocks. Very cool stuff.

The demo link above now takes you to the EN World/RPGNow shop for the free download. If you want to be contacted with the final product is release, be sure to have your mailing options set to accept emails from publishers or use our EP boards to put yourself down for a reservation (and save 25% off the cover price too).

There is still a direct PDF download link on the official EP site if you'd like to get it that way as well.

Thanks. It was nothing more than a cool concept until we got the idea to call it the "Gem of True Seeing" and then everything just came together. Be sure to check out the hidden sidebar on using the Book in your campaign and the effect a gem of true seeing has on the Book. ;)

I saw that. It rocks. Actually it inspires me on a side-project I've been cooking up that I want to talk to you about at some point. I'll drop you an e-mail tonight.

Part One of the Design Journal is up on the EP site as well. Dubbed "The Curse of the Book" it's all about how the Book almost never made it this far.
