Unusual Gaming Groups

I played with a wierd group 2 i women+ me

One of the ladies was an "otherkin" who claimed she was an elf IRL oh and she was an excellent artist with paintings of all of her character and cute boot. Almost made me consider dating outside my own species :D

The other was a huge muscular gal and basically protected her, umm touched, companion

The games were... Interesting

The table top game was a freeform game alegedly based on Powers and Perils but they seemed to continue the game in some kind of larp mode after the session was over.

Very weird

Me I played a half Demon/half Istari that looked like a muscular green Freddy Kruger in his demon mode

I did not play after the table top game was over though...

Another odd group I was in had 3 ok players and 9 outlaw bikeroid/gamers

When I was an undergrad, my group consisted of: gays, straights, Catholics, Anglicans, Jews, males, females, whites, Asians, Americans, Britons and Singaporeans.

Most of the groups I've gamed with over the last 20 years have had at least one female player. I've even had female DM's but not as part of any regular group, only at cons.

What??! No French? You biased Brit, you! :D

Seriously, if there's one thing that has always amazed me about gamers as a whole, it's how much the hobby allows people to cut across lines that normally are rarely crossed. Every Con I've ever been at, I've rarely found a dislikeable person, because no matter their politics, their religion, orientation, nationality, they all roll dice at some time or another and scream like a superbowl quarterback when they roll high! :)

you haven't gone to enough Cons.

there are bad apples in every bunch.

i'm still mad at the Klingon cheat in a Star Fleet Battles game from Gen Con 17.

Not sure if it's all that unusual but the group I play with currently consists of:

1 Bottled Water Salesman, nicknamed 'Surly Bast*rd'
1 Unemployed ex-english teacher, attempting to join the Federal Police - the DM
1 Genetic Engineering graduate - who now works for a telephone company (figure that one out)
1 Optical Physics Doctorate student - obsessed with Jerry springer
1 University Lecturers Assistant - in physics no less
1 Manager of a Jazz Club (me)

our games end up being discussions/rants/fist-fights about whatever the latest rule change the DM comes up with, interspersed with hacking up monsters and eating nachos.

Every gaming group is weird. We're gamers. Take, for example, my group...
1 relatively normal fellow, has a girlfriend.
1 guy who would be best described as 'Nazi' were he not a Jew. Tolerates nothing and nobody, but can immerse himself into a role quite well... provided that role is Torquemada.
1 perverted, sick individual. Has a girlfriend, for some reason I cannot quite fathom. Obsessed with anime.
1 eternal newbie, who can barely create a character without help, and half the time fails to show up.
1 relatively normal fellow... for a geek. Anti-social to the extreme towards non-geeks.
1 maths genius. Every group has one of these. Plays anything, and knows the rules better than anyone else after perusing the rulebook for fifteen minutes.
1 geek trying to pose as a normal, and pulling it off successfully.
1 me. *Sigh*

I've also run AD&D 2E to a group composed entirely of patients in a mental institute (me included). It was a great group, once we'd kicked out the egoist... and I'm not talking about a psion.

Well, when I first got together with my current group about 5 years ago, it was 9 men ranging in age from 18 to 35. Most were around 30. The group ranged from a high powered lawyer who makes a lot of money, to a guy getting his Masters at Yale, to two guys that worked as security guards and one guy that was a bartender, though both of the security guards went to decent colleges. After hearing so much online about drunken gamers, smoking gamers, chip cruching gamers, I ended up with a pretty vanilla group. None of the guys drank, smoked or ate during sessions, with the exception of the occasional bottled water.

Later, the Yale guy’s girlfriend joined our group. Of course, that also caused us to boot one other newcomer to the group when he started staring at her and drooling over her (she was quite pretty). We ended up with a decently diverse group – two natives of Taiwan, and later on Canadian, and one black guy. I think one guy is of Spanish descent, but I’m not sure. If my wife ever games, it would add a native of mainland China to the game. But, she has no background in gaming and does not relate too well to American/Western fantasy. So, I am not counting on her gaming.

The odd thing is, the group experienced some turnover over the next year or two and ended up with several guys that needed smoke breaks in game.

My strangest group consisted of:

1 58 year old calculus teacher
1 22 year old male goth who only dressed in black leather, and actually called himself BANE in real life. The caps are a pronunciation key. BANE!
1 6'5'' foot tall man who looked like Ronald McDonald and only played gnomes.
1 hairy biker wannabe who carried a pistol to games. In his defense he carried it everywhere.
1 16 year old goth chick with a tendency to only wear things that could be bought at Fredricks.
1 Pagan, nature worshipping wiccan girl who was as close to evangelical as wiccans get.
3 stereotypical gamers ages 17-21. i.e, glasses, bad hygeine, no girlfriends, obsessed with anime.
1 DM, otherwise known as me, who has to be odd to hang with this assortment of people.

Damn. I want to join that group....>_<

My 2 groups really arent that interesting.....

1 group of me (19 year old) and a bunch of kids from a local school
1 group of me, a 21 year old air force guy, 3 ex military guys, 2 guys that wished they had joined the military. Im anti-military. heh. Im also the only pagan in the group, however, in our EQ group(air force guy, 2 ex military guys), im trying to bring in another pagan, also ex military. I guess im the wierdo in the group.
