[Update] Dice for Soldiers in Bosnia (Long)

I thought everyone would like an update on the dice y'all and Chessex donated to the U.S. Army soldiers in Bosnia. Due to Christmas and the address being an APO, the package took over 3 weeks to get there! Here's the letter I sent to Sgt. Hinton along with the dice (his response is below):

Dear Sgt. Hinton:

Merry Christmas! Hello, my name is Steven Domkowski, co-owner of The Gamer’s Bag ™. A friend of yours that posts on the EN World d20 News & Reviews site told us about how Wizards of the Coast sent your group a plethora of free gaming books & modules. We all thought that was great, then I asked if they’d sent any dice. Once we ascertained they hadn’t, my wife Brandi and I started a dice donation drive for you. The dice manufacturer Chessex donated 30 sets to start us off, and we appealed to the EN World gamers to donate another 30. Through the help of EN World’s online store RPG Shop.com, we were able to get those 30 for a total of 60 sets. Kris Southerland, who has just begun solid pewter dice production, rushed us 30 of his prototype d6s. He will have all the other dice sizes in production after the first of the year. We at The Gamer’s Bag ™ are donating 30 of our Small sized bags to hold all of these dice in.

All of us would like to sincerely thank you and all the men of the 183rd for your service in Bosnia. I started gaming in the Army myself (I was with the 101st) and I know that gaming is sometimes the only thing that can keep you sane when you’re overseas. We hope all of you enjoy the dice, and the bags. If in the future you’d like more of any of those, www.rpgshop.com gives 10% off everything (books, modules, dice, dice bags) all of the time. You can get customized (initialized, custom symbols, pencil loops, different sizes, leather, chain mail, etc.) dice bags from us at www.thegamersbag.com. When y’all have a chance to get online and want to catch up on the latest gaming news visit www.enworld.cyberstreet.com/news. You also check out the www.chessex.com site and see their huge selection. We and Kris Southerland would appreciate any feedback on the bags and dice, as we are always trying to improve our products and these are Kris’s very first production dice.

In closing I’d like to say thanks again for all of your efforts over there and we hope you all make it home safely. Good luck and good gaming! Our contact information is below if y’all have any questions.

Sincerely,

Steven & Brandi Domkowski

Here is his response:

[COLOR=Sky Blue]To the folk at The Gamer's Bag.

We received a box filled with bags of dice here in Bosnia from you. I wanted to thank you for both the dice and the thoughts that came with the dice. The gamers here were delighted by the receipt, as previously everyone was having to share the dice of the few people who had brought some from home. Now everyone playing has dice of their own.

The pewter six sider has elicited many comments on it's unusual appearance. People are quite intrigued by them. If the individual manufacturing them proceeds to make all the other dice in a similar way, I imagine you'll have a winning product.

Again, thank you for your support of our military forces in this time. In the end, it is people like you for whom we wear these uniforms.

I also have a photo of the dice and bags if anyone would like me to post it. :)

I sent along a copy of the Whispering Woodwind Questus adventure from Creative Mountain Games, and received a kind response (which I may have lost in a purge, unfortunately). For any other PDF publishers, this might be of interest to you also-

Mark-

Thanks for the offer! I appreciate the fact that you and others are quite willing to support the members of the military deployed at this time. I can use PDF formatted items, but only if they are sent as attachments to e-mail. The machines available for use can't be downloaded to. As long as it's something I can print, I can accept your kind offer.

Thank you.

And here, again, is the Email address to send those PDFs if you are so inclined-

Grand kudos to all involved! I must have missed this call for dice, but it is a great cause. I would definitely be interested in being involved if something like this (gaming materials for the U.S. Armed Forces overseas) were to come up again.

Great stuff Paladin!

That's fantastic Paladin!! You and Brandi, along with everyone else who helped make this happen should be very proud of your efforts.

I liked Chessex before -- in fact I only own Chessex dice, I've given all the others to my son -- but now I'm even more fond of them.

Where can I see photos of those d6s they mentioned as special ?
I think they're in the tubes at the bottom of the pic that Paladin posted. Perhaps he can post a shot of just a few d6's?
