If it works for a sword or a suit of armor why not for a ring of protection...
If you have a +1 sword and want to add to it, you can. You just pay the difference in the cost. I.e. cost of the +3 less the cost of the +1.
How about that ring of protection you got for 2000 gold can you make it a +3 and pay 16,000 gold instead of having to buy a new one and sell the old one?
If so would this also expand to the stat enhancing items like the gloves of dex +2?
