Ur-Priest

Just for the record, the Ur-Priest is ridiculously broken, right?

Swashbuckler 1/ Wizard 4/ Ur-Priest 2/ Mystic Theurge 8

Cast 9th level divine spells, CL 16
Cast 6th level arcane spells, CL 12 (15 with Practiced Spellcaster)

At this point you're level 15. What happens when you take another level in Ur-Priest (not through Mystic Theurge, just regular)?

Only if your DM is a pansy, and doesn't regularly send crusading armies of clerics and paladins to wipe you from existence when you are least able to handle them.

For the record, I'm aware of the "oh, but you can't balance mechanics with RP!" debate. I'm simply noting that if you want a realistic world, this is what goes on. The Ur-Priest really begs for this thing to happen as one of its balancing mechanisms, regardless of whether or not you believe in the effectiveness of it as a balancing mechanism.

ya, purely mechanics it is pretty bad. Ironically though the other prestige class in CD that gives 9th level spells over 10 levels is not even discussed.

Spell-wise... +1 CL, I'd think. Spell progression doesn't normally exceed class maximum.

Isn't that the Divine Crusader? It only gets 9th level spells in a single domain in 10 levels, not as powerful as say the Ur-Priest or the silly pacifist one in BoED.

And in other news, water is wet!

As mentioned you only get the spells from a single domain. (With possibly a second from contemplative or something.)

More significant is the fact that you have to be at least 7th level to enter the class. Meaning you don't get 9th level spells until 16th level at earliest (with a 28 charisma).

More likely you'll get 9th level spells at level 17. Same as a cleric or wizard.

Which is why after this point you take hierophant levels.

Ya, because wish 3x/day without an XP cost couldn't take care of this problem...

Nah... the ur-priest is perfectly fine... as an NPC. Like my kir-lanan ur-priest nicknamed "EATER OF THE DIVINE." Mwahahaha!

I didn't suggest that it would magically make it unbroken, just that it should happen. For reference, how would wish take care of an opposing army?
