Urban Arcana Hijacked Game

Simon Coville (Smart 3)

Simon was relieved to hear it was Jennifer. He thought for a few moments that he had missed her and that she had already left for Antwerp.

Jennifer said:
"Simon? I've got us a lead on Papa Ghede: 'The Black Mamba'. I'll meet you at the library then we can go together, apparently the place is a bit on the dangerous side," Jennifer says as she turns the ignition, "One other thing, I didn't have that feeling of being watched on the way here."

Simon made certain the line was secure and explained what he had learned at the library. " . . . and I think I need to eat something too. I may have forgotten about it since this morning. I'll be at my car . . . it's in the lot in nearest the front of the library."

Wandering around town looking at the various restaurants you decide on a nice bar/restaurant called "de wierinck". Talking about what you learned today you try to make plans for tonight.

Simon Coville: Smart 3

"Not a bad place, huh?" Simon asked. "Anyway, so what I was saying was that Papa Ghede and Baron Samedi are two sides of the same coin. Also, both sides are at their strongest in their Honfour, a kind of sacred room where they pracrice their strongest magic. One of their strongest magics is to become possessed, or to allow others to become possessed by their Loa, their gods. Definitely some interesting stuff there. So what's our plan?"

"Well, tomorrow we may want to pay a visit to the 'Black Mamba'. It's a notably dangerous bar, but I'd expect it to be a bit quieter during the day. Maybe we'll have less of a chance of getting in trouble with the occupants that way, probably less drunks during daylight hours too," Jennifer replies, then adds, "It's fortunate we aren't looking for the Baron, heh."

She orders a drink, and settles back to chill out for a bit.

After dinner you have a beer and chat a bit , relaxing and listening to the hum of conversation. It's a favorite student restaurant, offering good food for a fair price, and you're amused at the raging hormones and the battle of the sexes going on around you. There are a few couples out for a romantic evening, and hunting season has been opened at the bar.

The hours seem to fly away, and just as you're about to leave Simon's mobile rings.

"Simon? Lafayette here. We've discovered, well, the remains of some kind of ritual homicide, probably from the macoutes. Could you guys come around and have a look?"

The adress he gives you is not far from leuven, an abandoned factory storage near a canal, a ten minute drive from were you are now....

[ooc : festy, where is the amulet ? Did Jen stash it at the appartement or is she carrying it?]

[ooc: I'd imagine her to be carrying it, in case she was able to find Papa Ghede that day. She'd probably have it in an inside coat pocket]

Jennifer is curious about the call, and Simon's expression.

"Is work calling?" she asks.

"Understood," Simon said, he thought for a few seconds as he reached for his wallet to set out the tip. "We should be there in about ten minutes."

Jennifer said:

"That it is," Simon replied. In a lower, quieter voice Simon added, "It seems they found a ritual homicide not to far from here that might be related to our case."

Simon made a quick scan of the restaurant, making certain no one was paying too much attention to them as they left.

As you drive along the dark road next to the canal you have no problems of locating the scene of the crime. Several policevans stand next to the warehouse with lights flashing. After identification you're allowed to enter the scene of the crime. The naked body of an African male lies on the concrete floor, in a circle drawn with what appears to be blood. Several decapitated chickens lay around him. The air is thick with the smell of blood and cigarsmoke. There is an altar of sorts nearby, on wich several organs lay, next to an empty bottle of rum. On the altar stands a small wooden statue with some nails hammered into it. It doesn't resemble anyone you know.

Lafayettecrouches next to the body, examioning it. You can see the forensic guys who are taking photo's of evrything. As you approach he looks up.

"Simon, Jeniffer. Thanks for coming on such a short notice. We've got another puzzle here. Have a look. No clear cause of death, although we have to wait on toxicology to be sure. Time of death aproxximaly 03.00 am, body discovered by someone walking his dog, wich started barking like mad when it passed. The usual expression of terror. You know the drill. The only external injurie we can see is a little wound at the earlobe." With that he sharply looks at Simon. "Just about where you've got that little bandage."

Jennifer takes a deep breath. Having eaten not too long ago, this didn't seem the ideal place to digest a meal. She paces over to the bottle of rum, and without picking it up, inspects it closely.

"Has the crime scene unit been through the place yet?" she asks Lafayette.

If not I guess we get to search for evidence.

Simon ignored the slight accusation by Lafayette, more because he didn't want to think about than anything else. He tried to think of this ritual had anything to do with the possession information that Simon had read about previously. He avoided the body as well, waiting for his dinner to settle down - he had waited so long to actually eat, it would be a shame to only have it in his stomach so short a time.
