The Dragon cd rom has an adventure titled "Barnucus;City in peril" that has an encounter table that is close to the one in the 1e DMG. Don't know if that helps but if you like to know more email me privately

The Kalamar module "The Root of All Evil" has a nice random encounter table for the city of Zoa. You could easily use it for other cities. I know I am going to. In fact the Random Encounter Tables for the Kalamar modules are almost worth the purchase price of the modules IMO. I can forsee several of them being veryy heavily used even if I never use the modules. For those that don't know, you roll a d10000 to figure out what is encountered.

I agree with Wicht that the encounter tables in the Kalamar adventures are excellent.

Other than that, I don't have any advice. This post is just my way of chiming in to say, 'yeah, I'm interested in the answers too!':)

Urban Blight is an excellent sourcebook for city based encounters. Layout suffered a bit at times and editing needs some improvement, but the writing is good and some of the ideas are great. I like the criminal physician for example A little bit of a twist on 'em so he's not completely standard. Another good source of these things is the often talked about City Books by Flying Buffalo, supposedly still available from the source. Crisp writing, good art, and excellent maps. The only problem? Not D20. (Yet I'm hoping.) These books really are a classic of the fantasy campaign. There are some others I'll try to think about..

Well I don't know about URBAN encounters, but I know for my money, Wilderness and Wastelands is a GREAT Random Encounter Wilderness guide as well as helpful in using/creating realistic hazards in the wild.

The 1st edition DMG had a wandering prostitute table! :D

Which is actually sorta refered to in the Zoa Random Encounter Table in the aforementioned Root of all Evil.

Its a d1000 roll and a roll of 531-550 gives you Harlot. The text reads in part, "Members of the oldest profession, harlots range from the slovenly trull to a haughty courtesan to an aged madam.'

My first take on reading this was that they were thinking that if you rolled this you should then pull out the old 1st ed DMG and roll again. ;)
