Why not kill said fighter/mage off? Have Fzoul assasinate him. Or better yet, have Manshoon kill him, as part of his readmittance into the Zentrium.

Then start you new campaign with the off-spring/allies of the Fighter/Mage trying to find out who killed him and getting revenge. Basically trying to navigate the politcal world of Zhentil Keep, while investigating different leads.

You can have all the Fighter/Mages allies assit the offspring on thier quest.

This way you get a bit of a fresh start yet can still use all your information.

I have a few thoughts: Replace Scylua Darkhope with my fighter/mage. I think she's lame and ill-thought out anyway, and would get rid of her regardless.

I think you should keep her. She's probably younger, and she's the rising star of the Zhentarim. In the intervening years after your last campaign ended, she would have come out of nowhere and made a name for herself, rising up to her current position -- in a fasion disturbingly similar to your hero.

Evil Overlords love to play their lieutenants off of each other, so Scylua would be a perfect foil for your hero. Your hero is old news; Scylua is the new name in Zhentarim heroism. Your hero is now "old school," but Scylua (in the public's eye) is a new, vital shot of zest and imperial might to the Zhentarim.

So now your hero has to really struggle to prove his worth to the public, and to his superiors. And anything he does will be tinged with that feeling of "reaching to continue to prove his value" in the face of anything that Scylua does.
