Gildrim follows Erf into the dusty hallway and listens.

"Ye whit? Ye whit?" he splutters. "Leuk, tak thaes bluidy cloots oot ay yer lugs." He plucks the rags from Erf's ears and pushes them back into the gnome's hands.

"Tay richt ye're charmed. Ah dinnae ken whither ye're talkin' nocht but bletheration, aw if ye're stumblin' oan bits ay th' truth.

"Leuk, whan Ah sent th' twa ay ye doon tae see th' lizardfowk, Ah thocht aboot knockin' her oan th' heid – aw worse. Ay coorse Ah did. But Ah didnae. Insteid, Ah gied her fair warnin' tae behave hersel' – thocht Ah'm nae shuir she wis listenin'. Ah dinnae think she’s aw that bricht.

"But noo, whit woud ye dae if she asked ye tae knock me oot? Ye'd likely dae as she seid! Ah coudnae lick even Ter-raen by masel', lat alane wi' ye an' th' hoond oan my heels. If ye'd brocht Apikotoa as Ah tauld ye tae, than mebbe. Twa agin three, at worst. Ah willnae risk it noo.

"Talk her intae comin' wi' us, of her ain will? Ah think ye jes' canna bear tae be parted frae th' wee green tairt! We cannae tak her wi' us. Leuk, she tried tae charm me tay, thocht she didnae plan on mah bein' a dwairrrf. Noo, she hasnae tried again, sae like eneuch she canna, aw it willnae wirk oan me again th' day. But ye ken hou magic wirks – ye git back yer spells whan th' sun hoves intae view in th' mornin'. Than, whaur woud we be? Days fram naewhaur in' th' mid ay th' swamp. She'd hae aw fower ay us charmed afair we kent. Mebbe she means nae harm, aw mebbe she's haudit back acause she disnae hae me dancin' fur her yit. We're jes' lucky she wadnae leave her shrine.

"Noo, Ah think we're jes' gonnae hae tae dae as she says, an' set aff."

Gildrim reopens the door to the garden. "Come alang', big fella. We're leavin'. Fare thee weel, nixie."[sblock=OOC]Phew, I'll be thinking in Gildrese for the rest of the day.[/sblock]

"Ye lets be off, the sooner we get back the sooner we can, umm, come back here again...?" Erf lapses into a troubled silence.

[sblock=OOC]Spellcraft on charm person. Spellcraft (1d20+6=23)

Looking for a way to avoid having to backtrack here! I don't suppose Countersong would work Covaithe? I looked at it and it looks rather iffy, but debatebly some components of Charm Person are language dependent...

I don't think I'm overdoing Erf's knowledge here with a 21 K.Nature on Nixie's and a 23 spellcraft on Charm person, but let me know if I am Covaithe.

Incidently let me know if theres any room in Bizarre Bizaar once you get cracking with it, I'm looking for an adventure for Rigabold my Urban Ranger, and though he's not the Cleric the group could use he is socially adept which might come in handy.[/sblock]

Gildrim fingers the head of the morning star that hangs from his hip. "Temptin', temptin'. Aw mebbe we can tie yer legs thegither and put yer in mah backpack. Ye can still dae yer healin' if ye hae yer heid an' a hand stickin' oot."

"Umm, no we need te go back gildrim, least ways I do.." Erf says looking less than enthusiastic.

"We should all go back really and umm, then we can tell Sister Anemone and escort her back here. I know she travels the swamp, but it'd be a dangerous journey on yer own. If we don't go back now she'll have to go on her own. Afterall we're not in any kind of hurry te get the Urn, no deadline or such, and all a few more days will do is let us refresh our spells to take on any other denizens of the house...."

The gnome sounds like he is trying to convince himself as much as Gildrim as he lapses into silence.

ooc: Hmm... I'm willing to stretch the point to allow Erf to plot knocking Kshatrya over the head to take her along to Anemone, because it doesn't go against (a strict interpretation of) what K asked. But plotting to get Gildrim to knock Erf out so that Erf can weasel out of doing what Kshatrya asked... I think that's a step too far for me. If you want to plot ways for Erf to get out of it, fine, but keep it OOC. IC, Erf is supposed to be working towards actually doing what Kshatrya asked. Which presumably includes avoiding conditions that would render him unable to comply.

But, for the record, the mental image of Erf casting healing spells with one arm sticking out of Gildrim's backpack? Hilarious.

[sblock=Charmed and confused] What I am having trouble with is the fact that he is aware he is being compelled. He knows that he doesn't want to go. Nothing about charm person impedes the faculties and he is both aware he is charmed and aware of the spells description. So how does this compulsion work? Is it akin to a zombification, or more like an addiction - you don't want to drink on some level, but are unable to resist. If its the later we could imagine someone agreeing to go cold turkey, by saying keep me locked up and keep me away from alcohol for a week, etc.

Personally I think charm person is just insufficiently explained, so meh.

I'll change up Erf's response and we'll see where Gildrim goes with it...[/sblock]

"Na, it widnae wirk," says Gildrim to himself. "Ah misdout ye'd stand still tae be tied up, an' Ah'm nae gonnae warstle ye intae mah pack."

He peers out into the garden again. "Ter-raen, come alang, an' bring th' doggie!"

[sblock=On Charm Person]Yeah, it's not the clearest of possible spells. I've been kind of playing it as if a really beautiful woman had batted her eyes at you and asked you to do something for her, something really stupid that you would ordinarily never do, and you found yourself agreeing without really meaning to. Now you're stuck doing it because you can't bear to disappoint her, and even though you know she's just using you, there's that little spark of hope that doing what she asks might make her like you for real. Don't tell me that's never happened to you in real life. ;) The fact that it's a mind-affecting spell is almost irrelevant. I have it in my head that for nixies, charming someone is kind of like wearing the little black dress and the expensive perfume: just that little bit extra for when you really want someone to like you. Thus, it's in some ways a compliment.

I originally considered not allowing Erf to roll on the check to find out what nixies do, for exactly the reason you describe. But I never quite made up my mind one way or the other, and by the time I got to the end of typing the post, I'd forgotten about it. Anyway, think of it as a roleplaying challenge: even though Erf knows that his desire to please Kshatrya is magically imposed, it's still very real and very strong. The challenge for me is to walk the line between railroading and letting you ignore the spell's effect, and I hope you'll call me on it if I slip too far in one direction or the other.

ooc: Anyway, enough of that. Can I take it that you've decided to head out for Cragger's Rest, then?
