D&D 5E Use Magic Device and wands

Valus

First Post
Has there ever been an official ruling on whether UMD allows a rogue to use something like a Wand of Magic Missiles? This seems like a pretty typical use of the ability/skill from previous editions, but my reading of 5e disallows it. The ability in 5b states that it removes all class, race, and level requirements. The wands, staves, Robes of the Archmagi, etc. (at least in the playtest, I haven't seen the Starter Set) all require the ability to cast spells, which isn't strictly covered by the ability text. Based on my read of the playtest & Basic Rules, that pretty much just leaves the Dwarven Thrower and Holy Avenger as items for which UMD applies.

Am I reading this incorrectly?

I would rule that the spell casting requires count as a class restriction. That isn't a strict reading of the rules but I think it is in the spirit of the rule since it seems the spell casting requirements replaced the class requirements.
