User Name and Avatars: Origin Stories

I think this is in the category of "All Cretans are liars."

1. Payn is Vikings fan.
2. Payn states he is not a masochist.
3. Therefore, Payn is not a Vikings fan.

....nice try, KIRK!

For the avatar...
I usually don't bother with these on forums.

Bruh. You're doing it wrong! Let me help.

This is not the greatest avatar in the world, no
This is just a tribute
But I lost the greatest avatar in the world, no, no!
This is a tribute, oh
To the greatest avatar in the world
Alright!
It was the greatest avatar in the world
Alright!
It was the bestest ever avatar
The greatest avatar in the world, ah-whoa!

User name is from Knights of Dark Renown by David Gemmel which became the name of one of my favorite D&D characters.

Avatar is the iconic Paizo fighter Valeros battling a tatzlwyrm. When he was in his two-weapon fighting glory days of PF1. Fit the way I play my fighters.

Been mostly a lurker for these past twenty years.

TwoSix was my college nickname, and I ended up using it for my online handle for most things I signed up for in the late '90s and early '00s (including this site, of course).

The actual origin of the nickname is slightly too ribald to pass muster with Eric's grandmother, sadly.

Well, more than 17 years ago (somehow), I wanted to leave a comment about a cursed morningstar that I created for my home game. Before I could post, I had to log in, and that meant I needed to create an account. I couldn't think of a clever nickname to give myself, so I just went with "clever nickname."

Yes, all my jokes are this obvious. I'm Clever, you see.

In case you don't already know, my avatar is Mog from the Final Fantasy VI video game (or Final Fantasy III, here in the United States.) He's my favorite character from my favorite JRPG. I don't know how clever he is, but he kicked Kefka's clowny butt.

My username's origin isn't terribly interesting. Back around 1995 or so, a friend of mine was running a D&D 2e game, and he had created a highly variant magic system he wanted someone to try, and I borrowed the character name.

My avatar has a bit more story behind it. It goes way back to the early days of EN World, before I was a moderator, and possibly back when Eric Noah ran the place. The original image was lost in the Xenforo upgrade, unfortunately, so I replaced it with another picture of the same character.

Back in that time, I didn't use an avatar. And the moderators were a raucous bunch. They goofed around giving each other avatars as jokes. One of them (I think it was Darkness) decided that I, just a user, should have an avatar that spoke to my posting habits at the time...

The picture is of Lindsay McDonald, an evil lawyer character played by Christian Kane on the TV show Angel, which was current at the time.

Your syllogism only works with BROWNS fans, not Vikings fans.

A Saints fan.

Tangent: years ago, my mother and I were in a Mediterranean/Arabic restaurant, and we were seated at a table near a large group of 20-something aged men. They were all middle eastern, and their attire ranged from very conservative middle-Eastern cultural garb to casual American. Some of their discussions- in English and other languages- were getting animated, but nothing they said was clear. Mom was getting a tad nervous. Finally one raised his voice above the rest:

“DUDE! The Browns SUCK! They have always sucked! They will always suck! End. Of. Discussion!” His friends all chuckled and they continued their meal.

Mom relaxed- just good old American sports heckling.
