As a gamemaster, I like the various Creature Collections the most. When I play, I like the Relics & Rituals books because of the magic rules (items and spells). I do not much mind having to go through the tomes because I do the same thing for the D&D core books.
There is a necessary "tweak" level for the SL material, just like any other product. It all depends on the homebrew material, IMO. For instance, I like the Titans, but I converted them to more primal beings who have willingly chosen to lessen their presence in the campaign world. This has created a stir in the mortals that follow them. I like some of the background material for the SL, and have adopted it into the campaign story.
Overall, I like the SL material. While I cannot afford to purchase all that I may want, I will seriously consider whatever product they put out for the public.
