Using spells, whats the best AC?

Ah i like that a lot. Exactly the type of thing i was looking for. It think the Ancestral Dwarf will be a tough sell. The poly/alter spells are limited by what has been seen and experienced in the realm.. Havnt come across those guys yet ;)

Note that your AC is 4 better in melee combat (Greater Luminous Armor) - hope you can handle the Str damage.

What's debatable about it? Seems perfectly valid under the rules to me.

By the rules, you're okay, but any sensible DM will have two problems.

First, this is exactly the issue that Andy Collins discussed in what is probably my favorite document he ever wrote, "The Polymorph Problem".

Andy Collins said:
What’s more, every new monster published makes the spell slightly more powerful. Designers and developers who create a perfectly balanced and playable monster must still remember to compare that monster to all others of similar Hit Dice to see what effect that creature has on the power level of polymorph or shapechange. Examples abound of where that comparison has failed to occur (war troll, anyone?); every one of those has made the polymorph spells more powerful.

Dwarven Ancestor is a classic case of this.

Second, there's the fact that the Dwarven Ancestor is just a stupid concept to begin with. It's a friggin' statue, for crying out loud. A statue is not an outsider, it's a construct. Anybody want to try and explain why a granite statue needs to breathe, eat and sleep (as all native outsiders do), and why it's subject to criticals?

Because it's a statue inhabited by a spirit. It's effectively animated as a vessle for the spirit and, therefore, must obtain sustenance. That's my shaky logic at least.

When first summoned, a dwarf ancestor takes up residence within a statue of a dwarf hero, animating it. As a result, many mistake the stony creatures for constructs on first encountering them

Either way...just my 2 cp

It's from the Book of Exalted Deeds and is extremely powerful if you have a way to mitigate ability damage.

Ah, I should have thought to look there. Thanks.

It also shouldn't be used because any DM in their right mind would outright ban the entire book except for special campaigns or for NPCs. The entire sanctified list can be spontaneously cast by clerics which is crazy. The barbarian prestiege class is outright better than a normal barbarian in every way. etc.

Hmm, it occurs to me that a Binder could have a lot of fun with all those spells with Sacrifice components that inflict ability damage. An exalted Binder, now there's an interesting idea.
