Ditto. All registrations and email happy friends get the netscape account - If my regular account gets 2 pieces of spam a month it's a lot.

But, I'd still bitch loudly at Valar for selling your email, especially when they have a confidentially clause on their site.
Right.

If its intentional or not DOES make a diffrence. If they simply made a mistake in bad judgment when choosing a company to send the newsletter it does matter.

Clear it up with them.

So this company absolutely, positively won't sell your email until they feel like changing their policy, which they are free to do at any time, and don't have to notify users of the change.

Sounds exactly like what happened to a bunch of people with Yahoo!, Hotmail, and many, many other internet services. It's why I, as many others have pointed out, use a seperate e-mail address for such things.

And since I haven't been inundated with tons of new spam (just the same old spam) I don't think Valar has "sold" my e-mail address. Not counting e-mails directly from Lupa or Anthony, the only Valar-related thing I get in my e-mail is the newsletter.

Need to vent.

Valar sold my email today, and yours too if you had a registration with them.

I gave Valar my email address to get a login which would let me preview their product, since only registered users could download their previews. I should have known better.

Tonight, I get an email from a third party mailing list service, containing a Valar newsletter. I look at the third-party mailing list company's privacy page (http://www.constantcontact.com/privacy_guarantee.jsp), and find that they're so, so against spam, except for this:

Clint,
My name is Lupa, partner with Valar Project.
We do not sell or give email address to others. Perhaps you are referring to our newsletter that we send out every one or two months. You can easily opt out of that service, please look over the newsletter and you will find it very easy to do so.

If you have received en email other then our newsletter please forward it to me at my email address geluardi@valarproject.com and I will take a look at it.

Thanks

Hi Lupa,

I think it's really great that you would stop by to address this concern, but did you read all of Clint's posts on this thread? To be honest, it really doesn't look like you did. He is referring to your distribution list service. You gave the email to them. They are a 3rd party company who is not bound to maintain email privacy. Thus, by extension your claims of email privacy are potentially misleading. The service you use hasn't shared the email address yet, but they are free to do so at any time in the future, despite your company's claims otherwise.

Nice to see Valar can sink even lower in my esteem for them.

That was uncalled for. It's clear this is either a unique problem or a misunderstanding. It's also clear from Lupa's posting right above yours that Valar is on to this and attempting to get to the bottom of it.

Hi Kenjib, I looked over the privacy statement and I think that Clint is more worried then he needs to be. The service that we use is not a free service, we did pay for it, as a private company it does retain the right to change some of its company policies. I doubt this will effect its sharing and usage policy. One of the reasons people choose to use this service is because of its stand on privacy. At this time it very clearly says

"Sharing and Usage
We will never share, sell, or rent individual personal information with anyone without your advance permission or unless ordered by a court of law. Information submitted to us is only available to employees managing this information for purposes of contacting you or sending you e-mails based on your request for information."

We chose this service because it allows us to send out newsletters and maintain a high level of privacy for our members. With spam laws becoming stronger this kind of service is actually very important to have. It allows the member to opt out with one or two clicks and it protects their information.

I will look into our newsletter service more closely just to alleviate any possible concerns. If there are any questions about Valar please step forward and talk to us, we’re always happy to answer questions.

BTW if anyone does have concerns or questions please visit our site and let us know in our forums. We are more likely to see and respond to them if they are shared with us. www.bookoferoticfantasy.com
I only knew about this because of one of our enthusiastic roving supporters.

So, have you received any spam from this? Or are you just concerned about the policy statement? It doesn't sound to me like anything at all has happened here.

I've looked into this a little and I will continue to do more research, for now here is an opinion from a friend who has more expierence with these matters.

"And yes, as with any 3rd Party company, they could change their policies and
share the information. Just like your bank could suddenly change it's
policies, and share your account information with other people. But your
bank would get sued for such action, and so would Roving Software -- so it's
kind of pointless to worry about it."
