Dark Jezter,

Great picture and you hit the nail right on the head. A thread about e-mail selling ends up in an argument on the worth of BOEF.

It seems to me AV has bent over backwards here and congrats to him on that. I am impressed. I wish sensitive customer like this was the standard instead of the exception.

However, I had a tough time understanding why AV does not ignore people trolling - I know I do. Then I remembered - controversy is a good thing where Valar Project is concerned. That's not a jab- it is an observation.

Not to cause a flamewar or anything, but while (s)he may be prejudging the product, I think it's hard to believe that (s)he's prejudging the company or the people. The company has been in the public eye for some time. The company has a web presence and a forum in which its representatives interact with users/customers. The company has produced a product for public consumption that while named a "preview", was still a product nonetheless. The same goes for the people, as you are interacting with him/her right now. While the product may have been prejudged, there has been ample time to make a judgement about the company and people based on their currently released product and subsequent interactions with the public.
You are correct, and the judgment the individual is making, in my opinion, is a bad one. Anthony and Lupa are going out of their way to solve the situation and problem as quickly as possible. The moment I notified them of the situation they jumped on it to correct it. So far they have done nothing to warrant a negative judgement. If they are at fault for anything it is for making an assumption. Nothing more.

Their time is very strained and thin at the moment yet they take that time to come and post here (and on their own forums) to help and fix said problem.

Tell me someone from WoTC would do that as quickly or as personally as they have?

You have to admit bro, it was a witty retort.

Well I'm not a expert on any of this but I do have to point out that the title of the thread is very misleading. Nobody sold a e-mail address or anything they just sent their newsletter out through a service with a questionable (yet pretty standard) legal disclaimer. So after reading the thread to see if I should expect more junkmail or if my e-mail was sold I come to the end to find out it was really just a worry about some legal mumbo jumbo on a disclaimer.

Next time just e-mail them and ask them about it first, that way I don't have to wade through this stuff or go through the silly attacks that seem to sprout up when Valar is mentioned (how did this thread ever get into morals and the BoEF? do people just look for Valar in the thread title so they can make nasty comments?). After you had discussed it with them and found out what happened and what was really going on then you could of posted but claiming they sold your e-mail address was sort of jumping the gun without any real information to back it up as was putting that claim as the title of the thread.

I'll agree with your point that they needed to contact people before they used a outside source just because of what their site said but the title of this thread implies that they purposely mislead you in gaining your e-mail address so they could sell it for a profit (you might want to edit the title in light of the fact that it is actually wrong, maybe to "Valar used questionable mailing service" or something more factual and less inflamatory).

I have two things to say:

1: We don't go for impugning someone's character on these forums. Hate the work, hate the subject, hate the quality, fine - but don't call someone's character into question. The whole story's not always simple.

2: Clint, I see Lupa and Anthony have answered your concerns, and their e-mail addresses are available through Valar, as well. I'm closing this, because the original posters' concern has been responded to.
