Point-based Magic has a loose reputation - I hope you know what you're getting in to.

Yep, I heard you can get a really bad case of the clap from point-based Magic.

Thanks,

I don't think anyone here could stand truly Vancian magic. In Vance, those guys could only ready 3 or so spells a day. I think I can safely say we'd all be screaming. I mean, look at the poor shadowcaster and how much hate it got (ok, I did a lot of the hating, but still..). One of the big complaints was the forced preparation of a small number of spells per day. OK, maybe the paths and small amount of known spells aren't truly Vancian (you get the grand total of *drum roll* 2 a day), but I think you get my point.

For D&D Core, the mechanics used for psionics far far far outweight the benefits and utility of Vancian magic.

Outside core, Elements of Magic and its partner, EoM: Mythic Earth, for the win.

1) Psi is considered Core these days? o.0
2) I absolutely agree! :p

I like it. I like mana systems and psionics, too. I'm arcanely polyamorous.

As am I, including Magic of Incarnum...

and other systems as well, depending upon game & campaign settings.
Whatever happened to Vancian music?

The Ioun Stones will probably be touring again once Keith Richards runs out of money for drugs again.

:P Re: 1. By "Core", I guess I mean meant products that sport the official Dungeons and Dragons label, as opposed to other d20 products. Silly, silly me. ;)
