I largely skipped 3rd edition, but none of this adventuring days and XP budgets was a thing when I was designing adventures for 1st edition!
Well pre 3E the game tortured me with different XP stuff like different XP tables for different classes, percentage bonus to XP because swas lucky enough to roll a high main attribute for his character. You can't imagine how hard I roll with my eyes when these days perfectly fine and otherwise creative OSR games insist on dragging that crab out of its well deserve grace..... :ROFLMAO:

Its mile stone levelling for me as DM all the way until I stop playing RPGs. A have had enough of the misery long ago. Back the when I was young an experienced as DM I a actually thought that XP tracking was something important for the game. So much wasted time an effort.

Lord Soth is in the book, Count Strahd is in the book in a big way. Sounds like they might have a Big Bad for each Setting.
Just because they're evil it does not mean that the players are going to have to fight them. Some bad guys might well want to stop Vecna's plan. I could easily see Stradh and Lord Soth being among that group. Players being players, and villains being proud, it might not happen, but let's hope that it is possible.

My group is 9th level right now and they just finished their first Spelljammer adventure. They’ve got a ship and colorful crew.. I wonder how badly this would go if I suddenly pulled them away. They’re enjoying the setting…
Also, I wonder how new player friendly it will be in regards to the lore. All of these big star villains but my players never even heard of them (Vecna, Strahd, etc). I would hope the adventure will give you a cliffs notes version to feed the characters (and players) in story.

Legend
Going back in time creates an alternate timeline / reality. The two things are linked.
That is one of multiple possible time travel models. Seven Monkeys style time travel within one timeline with no changes is another possible model. Another where time travel can alter the one reality instead of creating or going to alternate ones is another.
