D&D 5E Finished running Vecna: Eve of Ruin!

After 17 sessions (typically 2.5 - 3 hours long), we've finished running Vecna: Eve of Ruin.

The final session had a bit of disruption at the beginning as D&D Beyond went through a rough patch, but it came up soon enough and we were able to proceed.

The fight against Vecna went a lot better than I expected.

Polling my players, they were unanimous in ranking the adventure a C (Average).

Comments:
"There were great moments and really poor ones."
"It has the same issue as a lot of their recent adventures: different parts written by different people so chapters were wildly different in how well they pulled together."
"Eberron and the last two chapters were the highlights for me. Chasing down Kas was fun."

My personal "best bits" are Eberron, Greyhawk, and Chapter 10. Chapter 11 - a bit weak, but the final confrontation worked a lot better than I thought it would.

I'll get around to writing a longer breakdown on my blog in the near future.

Cheers,
Merric

We are in the last couple of chapters in Shattered Obelisk and I plan to move directly into Vecna. The players don't know it yet but the mysterious deity they have been talking with on and off is Vecna. I did this so there would be better connective tissue.

Good to hear. I've been running it for about 6 sessions, having just finished chapter 3 (spelljammer). I've been attempting to enhance it a bit, by adding in information about Sigil and Planescape. I also tried to add some more info about spelljammer as well, since my players knew nothing about it. I'm changing the twist, however, since I didn't care for it.

I've replaced Tasha with Iggwilv, because in my world they're different people. Iggwilv is arguing to use Kas instead of the party to face Vecna, since he has experience. She'll eventually make a deal with the dark powers to release Kas and betray the party.
