??? Current season of Stranger Things is in '86, well before MTG. Are there Stranger Thing MTG themed cards?

Vecna in Stranger Things is the nickname of the monster, but not the original D&D Vecna. Agatha Christie's character Hercules Poirot isn't the same character from classic mythology. Athena from the SNK videogame isn't the deity from the classic mythology. Calisto, the leader of the morlocks from X-Men comics isn't the witch from the "Odissey". Pac-Man was the nickname of Sean Penn's character in the movie "Colors" (because he drove a yellow car).

Hasbro realises Netflix is very useful to promote their brands, but we can't know the future strategy. In the last year Netflix has lost a lot of subscribers.

Also, the D&D Stranger Things starter set (which I havent read personally) seems would imply that Stranger Things is part of the D&D multiverse.

Not at all. The D&D Stranger Things Starter Set contains a short adventure with the conceit that it was written by Mike Wheeler, one of the kids in the show. It seems written to evoke the feeling that you and the kids have played the same adventure, not that the kids are in a D&D world themselves.

I ran it for a group of 3, two who'd never played and the very basic concepts were easy to understand for everyone.
