Veritas and Miracles 2-3-03

OK, two genre shows on Monday nights. Which, if any, will make it past two or three episodes?

Most critics seem to be slamming Veritas , but most of the slams from them seem to be that they could care less about the main plot point of the show; seems a pretty important thing to me.

But it was at least watchable. It had good moments. I'll give it more time; I'll tape it tonight and see.

Miracles was a very tough sell to me but seeing such a positive spin on it on AICN made me at least tape it. It was better than I expected, especially at the end when things seem to go at a completely 90-degree angle to what I had expected.

The AICN story on Miracles 1.2 makes it sound very interesting. I didn't read the spoiler text, but.. I'll watch it tonight.

Finally, there is something good on Mondays again. I enjoyed both shows & they are vastly different from each other. "Veritas: The Quest" reminds me of a cross between the Hardy Boys & Young Indiana Jones (both of which I enjoyed).

"Miracles" blew me away in the first ten minutes of the show. It was like seeing a cable show on network channel. I was very surprised at the twist ending.

I'm watching both shows & hope they will last at least a season. However, I'm not holding my breath since I've lost such shows as "Farscape," "Witchblade," & "Dark Angel". I think "Dinotopia" is lost too since it hasn't been on for the past few weeks.

My big gripe is having "The Practice" on between the two shows. I wasn't too big a fan when it first aired. Maybe I'll start watching it again if "Veritas" & "Miracles" stay on.

Dinotopia was cancelled a few weeks ago, IIRC. Veritas did not really impress me, particuarly in the way that, say, "Young Indiana Jones" did. It seemed all to formulaic and trite, a very 'paint-by-the-numbers' kind of thing. If I were much younger, I might feel differently. It was nice to see the guy who played the Mummy as their bad-ass, but overall I couldn't sit and watch it straight...I had to keep flipping away to something more interesting.

As for the Practice being between them...well, I doubt it will stay there, after a week or two. That, and the fact that it's about as big a fantasy as the other two shows. ;)

Only way these shows will make it is sex or to be mean. ABC is hurting and the shows while okay just do not grab the watcher. Both will be gone soon.

Dino went the way of the dodo, no one saw it because they never had it in the same place twice.

I watched Veritas, and thought it was crap. The acting was bad (same problem Birds of Prey had), the plot was very rushed, just overall pretty bad.

I did not get a chance to see Miracles, but plan on Tivoing it and catching the next episode. I too would really like something good on Mondays.

I watched both and came away with different reactions.

Veritas reminded me much more a a live action Johnny Quest. I was just trying to figue out who was Haji, since everything else seemed pulled right from there. The actng is a little better than Birds of Prey, but that isn't to hard. In my view it will be lucky to make it until the end of the season.

The Practice seems there for the rest of the season. David E. Kelly came out with a viscious attack agaist ABC claiming they were trying to kill his show by moving it there (Contract negotiations are due at the end of this year)

Miracles was interesting. It was well written and had more of a cinematic feel than TV drama (I also got that feeling with Kingpin last night, maybe this is a new trend). I am planning on continueing for while with this one to see where it goes. My only concearn is that these dark cinematic dramas don't normally last long.

It was here and gone before I even realized it had debuted. I didn't watch the miniseries for some reason, even though I loved the two original books.

I have no interest in Miracles and Dinotopia didn't make my day, but I am planning to give Veritas a chance. :)

If you sit down and take a few breaths, I understand that the feeling will pass. ;)

They both looked pretty good to me. Veritas doesn't have the best acting in the world, but I feel that it will get better as time goes on. Also, it has a large overarching storyline, which is a plus in my book.

Miracles: someone said that it blew them away in the first 10 minutes; for myself, it blew me away in the first 10 seconds. The nun was a real shock to see, and the show just got better from then on out. As a person who currently has no faith (an involuntary situation :(), I really identify with the main character a lot.

Monday nights just got a whole lot better, but I wish some networks would switch programming around a bit. Monday: Veritas and Miracles, Tuesday: Smallville and 24, Wednesday: Enterprise. 5 shows in 3 nights? C'mon, couldn't they work together and make it 1 show/night? ;) Just to please me, their most important viewer?:D
