Victorian Era D20?

Monte Cook, who wrote the original and the got the rights back said he might go back to Space 1889.

Monte Cook didn't write the original, so I seriously doubt that he "got the rights back", as I don't think he ever had them. Frank Chadwick is the original author and rights-holder.

I believe it's "Dark Space" that Monte Cook wrote and gained the rights to (when ICE went bankrupt), though I'm not sure.

IIRC, it's a horror space game, I don't think it's Victorian.

Age of Empire

Hi all!

GMS, what are the chances of seeing an Age of Empire d20 game? :D

Regarding the Smoke: London, 1867, it seems that the d20 statements in the solicit may be in error. I sent an e-mail to Heresy Games for more info. I received a response indicating that the book would both be a little bit late and that it would not be d20.

They presently have no plans to tow the d20 line. Oh well, more fun for those hordes of FUZION fans. ;)

Thanks for reading.

If you want rules for the steam tech side of things in a Victorian-theme campaign, check out Steam & Steel when it finally gets released by EN Publishing (soon now! :D)

As an aside, hey, Tetsujin, you ever gonna turn up at Durham Gamesoc then? I've seen your comments floating about the mailing list, but that's all.

Hmmm. You know? That's not a bad idea. I don't own the rights anymore, but I know who has them and I think I could probably talk 'em into it....

Although I'd probably change the title, to remove confusion with the computer game that's come out in the mean-time.

Thanks for the suggestion, Merova. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got an email to send....

I heard that Guardians of Order had the rights to it. Do they still? what was the setting about? Besides it being Victorian.

I was wandering if anyone out there know any D20 campaign settings set in the Victorian Era? I there is Ravenloft but are there any others?
The RPGA Campaign "Living Death" has a 3.5 version of their rules, for free, at www.livingdeath.org. It's the 2e Ravenloft "Masque of the Red Death" converted to 3.0 and then upgraded to 3.5. The campaign is set in the 1890s.

Why you say that?

Well, I don't know about the original posters opinions, but I, too, found Victoriana a wretched game.

The authors' sense of history, society, and politics are superficial and often highly questionable. I found it very odd that this is the only game that essentially requires you to have a socio-political orientation, but that several other choices (Communist vs. Bolshevik) are nonsensical, not to mention anachronistic. Equally given the fact that there are many other sentient races around, it seems very odd that black humans would still be the subject of massive levels of prejudice; one would assume that the non-humans would bear the brunt of such scorn instead. The game has a specific game year -- 1867, yet the Crimean War (ended in the 1850s) is still raging and the Ripper Whitechapel murders (1888) have already taken place.

The basic tenor of the game is more akin to Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0 than it is to the Victorian or Edwardian era -- The Man Must Go Down. Characters are assumed to be members of some underground movement bent on taking down the Establishment, thus following in the footsteps of such successful mid-19th century movements as ... ummm, errr.. no one. Equally if you are a member of the Lower Classes your character will have better stats and probably better skills than someone of the Aristocracy just 'cuz.

The game is a travesty of the genre. Give me Castle Falkenstein any day of the week. At least that game got the tone of the era right, from the swordplay to the creation of Infernal Devices.
