Victorian London. Police fire-arms.

Am about to run a campaign for one of the (many?) derby groups set in 'real' Victorian London set in 1865.

Have number of 'era' specific questions havent been able to answer.

First one is:

Police been around for a few decades and the punishment (in theory) now fits the crime. Does anyone know the prevelance of allocation of fire arms to both uniformed and non-uniformed officers in this time frame? I may have known answer to this in past but cant find answer on t'internet.

If you have access to the Pyramid forums at Steve Jackson Games, either Lisa Steele or Hans-Christian Vortisch would know. Steele's GURPS Cops mentions that as late as 1888, peelers had to make do with a truncheon and their wits.

Not that it would help too much with the specific question about guns, but have you looked at Etherscope? If you're planning on running a victorian game you might find a number of systems that will help capture the feel of a victorian setting better than some of the more standard D20M ones.

Cheerio,
