Video Capture/Editing Software for Window XP

Old One

First Post
Anybody have any recommendations for inexpensive (but functional) video capture/editing software for Windows XP? We have some DVR movies we made of my father-in-law just prior to his death that we are trying to edit and place onto DVD as a family Christmas present.

I am somewhat of a computer idiot...so something idiot-proof would be helpful!

Also, any file type recommendations (ie, mpeg vs avi)?

Thanks in advance...

For your purposes, the file format isn't likely to be terribly important. That said, I'd go with MPEG for most purposes.

Something like this looks to me like a pretty decent little system. It looks like it has everything you would need. I've used Pinnacle before for simple solutions and it works pretty well (though that wasn't this particular setup). The key "tech" things I look for are resolution (should be 720x480), frame rate (should be 30 frames per second), and video inputs (this depends on what your particular needs are - the linked program has most everything you'd typically need).
