Villains & Vigilantes is BACK!

Eh? What? Errata for carrying capacity? Where can I find that????
I currently have the second edition book in front of me (one of two I own). The formula shown matches the formula that is written out in English. I know that the first edition formula and text did not match. Thankfully, at that time I was a real math geek and was able to get the actual formula from the text description. The second edition formula is:

[(S/10)^3 + (E/10)] x (W/2) = Carrying Capacity

Where:
S = Strength
E = Endurance
W = Character's weight in pounds.

Heh, that's the formula we used back when playing V&V. IIRC, a friend of mine pointed out the discrepency between the two formula and we checked which was correct against the CC of Mamoth, Nomad and Lightning-Fist :)

Edition or printing? The copy I own is the 1982 revised edition (the first was 1979), but the formula does not match, at least not literally. See my post above.

The cover says Revised Edition. The formula I showed above is copied from the book. The text from that book says, "(in common English. 'One-tenth of the character's Strength score, cubed, plus one-tenth of the character's Endurance score, and that total multiplied times one-half of the character's bodily weight')." I know my older book, which is first edition (and is currently MIA) had the formula you showed and the text I just quoted.

Hey Jeff Dee! Just wanted to let you know that V&V (the second edition) was one of my all time favorite games, and the V&V my friends and I had lasted a good, long time! One of the things that really got me interested in the game was the picture of the Gauntlet I saw in my friend's rule book (still looks awesome, btw).

Thanks, Gray Mouser! Did you know that one of Jack Herman's PCs (and hence, a teammate of Gauntlet's back when we were running our original V&V campaign, the Protectors) was named Mouser? Only he was a big green cat. How's that for trivia?

Gray Mouser said:
Glad to see (finally) the release of LL, too. I know the game was a solo project by you but I was wondering if there was any involvement (or planned involvement) of Jack Herman?

There's an open invitation for Jack to get involved, but right now he hasn't got the time.

You know, I remember going to a comic con here in Chicago back around '82 or '83, and my friend and I stopped at a table in the dealer's hall with a bunch of V&V modules. Some guy was scribbling away behind it.

Me: "Dude, V&V!"
Friend: "Cool."
Me: "Man, I love the art in these. Jeff Dee is awesome."
Friend: "Yeah!"
Me: "So, you want to go blah, blah..."

...and we walked away. It wasn't until years later that I thought about that day, and realized that we were standing right in front of Mr. Dee. :eek: I have yet to forgive myself.

I don't mind folks talking about me as if I wasn't even there... as long as they say nice stuff ;-)

Anyway, it's nice to see you here, Mr. Dee. Let me add my voice to the chorus of long-time fans. I drew a lot in school, and my last name begins with a "D", so I even used to sign my art like you did, e.g., "•D• '85". :)

Yeah? Well I stole the idea from Tolkien's signature for Durin - on the map of the Lonely Mountain from The Hobbit. Dwarven rune for "D", dots before and after. Only his signature had a box around it.

Sheesh, I'm just a font of trivia today.

IIRC (and Mr. Dee can correct me), I don't think Jeff did any work for Champions, at least not any of the early editions that I owned.

Correct. I never did any art for Champions. I *did* do a few illustrations for some Palladium Heroes Unlimited thingie, though.

See? Trivia.

re: Mini Review

Thanks for that very nice review, SWBaxter! Have you considered submitting it to any web sites? I could use the publicity ;-)

Heh, I knew his character was named "Mouser" form the inside front cover of the 2e V&V game book, but I didn't know he was green!

Out of curiosity, was the feline-type character on the cover of F.O.R.C.E. supposed to be Jack's "Mouser"? He wasn't green, but I always wondered about that.

There's an open invitation for Jack to get involved, but right now he hasn't got the time.

That's too bad. I hope he makes an appearance in the future!

BTW, I was always hoping that you'd do work in the comics field (I'd love to have seen your work on the X-Men before they took a slide into their current ridiculousity) but only ever saw you on the V&V mini-series, which I quite enjoyed, btw. Did you have any comic-gigs that I missed, or has the majority of your work been in the gaming industry?
