D&D 5E Volo's Guide: "You might be wondering why certain monsters were chosen above others... We hope to tackle other monsters in other products over time."

Hi, I'm a Mindflayer, but don't let that worry you
I figured we'd get a few clues about future products hidden in Volo's Guide. Here's a good one from the introduction to chapter 1:

"You might be wondering why certain monsters were chosen above others. Where are dragons and githyanki? What, no fiends or undead? We hope to tackle other monsters in other products over time."

I think we'll be seeing more Volo's Guides or similar products in the future.

That's exactly what I thought as well when reading that. Honestly, it's an excellent format for future monster books, rescuing creatures from just being nothing more than soulless stat-blocks...

I was also wondering, in regards to the special edition covers, perhaps they plan to have them as future option for all volumes of a planned "Volo's Guide to..." series? That way they would form a coherent set on the shelf. I can definitely see a future "Volo's Guide to Dragons" having a similar dragon cover design, for example...

All those would be perfect for a manuel of the planes.
