Vow of Poverty

Hmmm, technically silver and cold iron weapons are not necessarily masterwork. So I guess you could have VoP guy with a light crossbow with cold iron ammo and silver ammo, as well as say a silver dagger and a cold iron dagger. (Or even 20 of each, if going for Master Thrower). But that would seem to violate the spirit of the thing.

I don't mind the "pack mule" interp., so long as the stuff is packed up tight, so that the VoP guy can't get at it. Mind you, I would prefer to be lightly encumbered (on of the side benefits of VoP).

Oh, and the main benefits of VoP include AC boosts, Saving throw boosts, ability boosts, a few magical abilities at high levels, energy resistance (all forms), and 11 bonus feats of the Exalted type. So given those MASSIVE benefits, I don't mind a strict interpretation. (Technically, a cleric with VoP does not get a wooden holy symbol, so turning undead would not be an option and certain spells would be ruled out, for instance).

Edit: If you take VoP later in life, you get all benefits retroactively except for some of the bonus exalted feats (which are fixed as if you character levels were "fighter" levels for when you would get them).

The thing I would do then is check to see how much silver and cold iron weapons cost. It seems that if you're carrying around rare, exotic materials/weapons you aren't acting poor.

I would rule that the VoP person could carry stuff, sure, but would probably want to drop it during combat (to avoid suffering encumberance as well as to be clear that it wasn't being used.)

Benefits are not so massive compared to someone who has the equivalent cash for the level, though, if you take away the feats. Given that some of the exalted feats interact with turning, and that wood doesn't cost very much, I think it's silly to deny a wooden holy symbol. No silly adamantite holy symbols, though.

Yes, as I stated above, if you take it later in life, you get the bonuses but not the feats retroactively. Although, if you were able to get your hands on luckblades or rings of wishes while you still had money, you might have picked up some inherent ability score bonuses that may or may not balance that out. I'll let someone else crunch the numbers on that.
