"What do you think, he has told what he knew or I make sure he is hiding nothing... I'll start with his left hand if you want." asks Haltash to Shadow. Haltash walks behind the prisoner and take a look at his hand who are ties. "Right hand finally, it is more accessible."

[SBLOCK=OOC]Yeah, me too ;) I've just seen back to back the whole first season of Lost. And Saïd torture once Sawyer, and it is what he does, putting wooden stick between the fingers and the nails... and I had one of my nail removed for medical reason. It is painfull when done quickly, I can imagine how it is when it is done slowly.[/SBLOCK]

T'Ranis' captive stares for a moment, and then says quietly "I didn't think you could hear me. I just... This isn't how I want to die. Not like this."

"I only took the job because I thought it was going to be a safe theft. I didn't know that the houses were going to be involved. I mean, I'm from a house myself... or I used to be. I dind't want to get involved. And now he's left us, so he can get a bigger split the loot with the damned Pit Raiders that made it back."

"Perhaps you may still controll your destiny." T'Ranis says with indifferent philosophy. "I am a stranger here, you would know better than I how you might influence these thief-catchers. I shall watch and learn from your efforts. We have been hired simply to recover the stolen ship, so I suppose you have some room in which to maneuver. How bloodthirsty are these humans?"

[sblock=Lori]
Lori knows a bit about the Black Pit. For starters, it's a place where a lot of revolutionaries and criminals congregate. Definately not a nice place; a sort of wild, unkept village on the borders of Breland.

It's been around for a while, too - at least several hundred years, due to it's position as an entryway into Khyber. There are numerous rumours of Daelkyr meddling in the Black Pit, and it's been a holding that Breland has never been able to fully control. Durign the early parts of the last war, it also served as a recruiting point for mercenary groups that were typically spiteful of Brelish power. While the area has little in the way of political allegiance (except for it's own attempts to become a capital for the raiding bandit groups that rule in the region), it has had ties to Karrnath throughout the Last War.

The man looks at T'Ranis, and then shrugs. "If I hang, I hang. Know this, strange one. The Pit Raiders care nothing about life, for the most part - they only search for the next high, or the next big score. Killing them is no matter; I don't even think the one you killed would mind it too much, in some cases. But beware of the Bugbear that leads them. He has ways of killing you that..." he shakes his head, in silence.

"I never knew until three days how much skin a man could lose and still live. Or how loud that man could scream. And the bugbear? I don't think he cared, one way or the other - there was no enjoyment, and no distaste. Which I think just made it worse."

"I... I... I don't know what else I can say, stranger."

OOC: I made a few listen checks, to speed things up. And you all heard nothing. Hehhehheh...

The interrogation of the prisoners continues for a few moments more, before everyone clearly hears a loud scream that sounds almost... Wet, before gurgling away. It is obvious that it's coming from the hallway outside.

Rukus, the second mate, curses loudly, and cries out "what in the name of...?" drawing his blade quickly.

There is the sound of blades being drawn outside, as the two guards posted at the door get ready to fight off whatever is attacking them. Before you hear their attacks, though, you see Rukus, staring at the window that dominates one wall.

Turning to look, you see a huge shadow that blocks most of what little light hits the curtains. It's a silhouette of what appears to be an armoured skycab, although larger.

The window shatters, and you can all see three crossbowmen wearing black leather armour and goggles over their eyes. They all have their weapons ready, and start firing as soon as the glass shatters (what hit it?)

The crossbowmen fire at those exposed in the room. A bolt misses Tondrek widely, and imbeds itself on the wall. Another bolt hits Shadow, striking the telepath squarely in the chest (11 points of damage!). The third bolt is aimed at Guardian, and misses, instead striking the nearby door.

A fourth man, with wild, flowing hair, tosses an iron orb into the room, which explodes the second it strikes stone, shooting out a shockwave of purple energy. The attack lands near the bound prisoner, and thus hits both the prisoner, Haltash, and Shadow. The prisoner screams before drifting off (to sleep?). Haltash and Shadow can make Will Saves (DC 14).

Lori recognizes this as a sleep spell, with a strange material component.

*** END OF SURPRISE ROUND***

OOC: Roll for initiative.

Unidentified Caster: 25
Crossbowman #3 18
Crossbowman #2 9
Crossbowman #1 7
Rukus 3

ooc: Is T'Ranis aware of this, from wherever he is securing the other prisoner? If so, he'll order the crewman he drafted to help secure the prisoner to continue to secure him, and he'll head to help his new companions.

Initiative (1d20+5=24)

(Spot and Listen: +7)

Standard Action: Manifest offensive prescience
Move Action: Head toward the fray (possibly by opening a door)

Initiative: 1d20+2=13
Will Save: 1d20+5=6

Crud. Both of my characters in the Living Worlds have been the first to get attacked, and they've both been dropped. I hate invisiblecastle. Why? Why? Why?...

IC: Shadow feels sleepy, and drops. The floor looks so inviting, and the changeling is so tired...very, very tire...
...he drops off to sleep.

OOC: Don't forget that Tondrek has lots o'Spellcraft too.

"Eeep!" Tondrek exclaims, dropping the book in his hand. He attempts to flatten himself against a wall away from the crossbow fire, pulling free his shield for protection. Now that it is visible from underneath his cloak, it is clear that is another Tondrek-made special, and has a crude---but lovingly made---warforged face on it.

OOC: Init: 17

OOC: Initiative (1d20+1=3)

The attack catches Guardian completely by surprise. This is completely against the rules of battle! He thinks, Clearly, these brigands need to learn what it truly means to fight.

"Take cover!" he shouts to Haltash and Tondrek. He takes in as much of the scene as he can while readying his shield and drawing his blade. He looks to the defense of his companions first, and the destruction of the enemies second.

OOC: If Guardian can move to provide cover for one of his companions, he will do so. If it seems readily apparent that the crossbowmen have a good firing angle despite his intervention, Guardian will instead try and get himself into a good attack position.

Are the attackers standing on the deck of a skycab floating outside the broken window?
