Up until I started C&C, my answer would have been a resounding yes. Now, I'm like the OOP players who don't see a need to switch to C&C because the chosen system is close enough.
 

In a heart beat, yes. While I wouldn't give up my C&C campaign, if I had to choose between joining a group playing one of the older editions or 3e, I'd take the older one. Especially if I had to DM.
 

Ignoring the Rules Cyclopedia a second, let me pose two anecdotes:

1: I ran G1 "Against the Giants" at a North Carolina Gameday this January. I had ELEVEN, yes, eleven, players (I had three people trying it because their respective games had folded, but I had EIGHT signed up from the beginning.) Of the eleven, five had played AD&D previously. We had a very fun game, and over half told me they'd be open to playing it again.

2: Virel from the Dragonsfoot forums, partly inspired by this, opened a 1E AD&D game at a local 3E-dominant game store. He had a good ten people regularly playing and having a ball.

"Old School" AD&D may not hold my attention for a long time, but it does offer enough fun to come back to it from time to time, and it still has all the basic keys needed to manufacture a fun time for all players out there.

Except for poor Der Kluge, whose 9th level cleric danced with a Gnoll for 11 rounds. :D

He even separates race & class, and adds some feats (integrated with the Weapon Mastery system). Not really my thing (I'm more oldschool than that) but you might like it...

9 = 10
8 = 11
7 = 12
6 = 13
5 = 14
4 = 15
3 = 16
2 = 17

1st level characters start with no BAB. The level increases are pretty easy to extrapolate from the to hit charts - e.g. fighters get +2 every three levels, clerics get +2 ever four, etc.

Feel fee to print this out once you get your RC. :)

Why did you feel the need? The designers surely didn't. Check out Appendix 2 in the back for guidance on multi-class characters, races with classes, gnomes, and so on. The various supplements are littered variant classes and class building tools. Pick up GAZ10 Orcs of Thar and PC4 Night Howlers for some of the best examples.

The system was designed to be toyed with. The 7 (eight if you count the Mystic) classes presented in the book should be considered "a good start". My campaign uses an alternate paladin modeled on the one from the old Greyhawk Supplement, a Ranger modelled on the old article in T.S.R., an Illusionist also modelled on an old article in T.S.R., an alternate Druid modelled on the one in Eldritch Wizardry, Halfling and Dwarf thieves of my own devise (inspired by the aforementioned appendix 2), half-elves of my own devise, gnomes from PC2 Top Ballista, many of whom are Illusionists (using the shamam/wokani rules from the various supplements, but just giving them the illusionist spell list).

I suppose there isn't much question about how I answered the poll.
