I use Mechae as the general title of the race...the race itself eventually claimed allegiance to a god of Law and Protection....and now they address themselves as Kaeruniban (sons of Kaeruna).

When I use them in other campaigns, I call them Soulforged, since I usually have their natures bound to reincarnating souls into constructs.

I'll still call them Soulforged now, but use Incarnum as the inspiration.

And while its not necessary, beating them in a certain order makes the later defeats easier (Crashman vs Woodman, Flashman vs Quickman, etc) especially since the victor gets to absorb a portion of the defeated's power ("There can be only ONE!"). Each tribe of these 'Forged' has its own distinct territory and theme music too. Hehe.

Going with the Megaman stuff, the rogues were called Mavericks in the later stuff (Sigma as big baddie not Dr Wily or even Dr Cossack).

Uh oh, look what I started. :heh:

Seriously though [Cause I don't think I've added anything to this thread yet] take something cool, like Forged for example, and use http://www.etymonline.com/ to find some neat variant or something. I've been doing that for a lot of things recently, actually, and it takes that same old word which has always been used and turns it into something interesting. Not only that, but though people might guess what Forged is, they might not know what another word related to it is.

From Merriam-Webster

Hoplite
Pronunciation: 'häp-"lIt
Function: noun
Etymology: Greek hoplitEs, from hoplon tool, weapon, from hepein to care for, work at
: a heavily armed infantry soldier of ancient Greece

Praxis
Pronunciation: 'prak-s&s
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural prax·es /-"sEz/
Etymology: Medieval Latin, from Greek, doing, action, from prassein to do, practice
: ACTION, PRACTICE: as a : exercise or practice of an art, science, or skill b : customary practice or conduct

Either could be used as a name like "Hoplitans" (essentialy "tool people") or "Praxians" meaning those who work.

I think that nearly all of the above are great suggestions, but I would add the suggestion that you choose four names: the names these beings call themselves, the names others call them in polite company, slang or derogatory names others call them, and then a technical name - something that only scientists and/or the intellectual elite would use.
