Warlock Feat Choices

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Lets assume for the sake of arguement the that any a warlock could take three feats at first level.

Now, said Warlock takes the Point Blank Shot, Far Shot and Weapon Focus (Ray). Would the character apply PBS an FS to their Eldritch Blast?

I've never played a warlock or DMed one, so I'm curious about this choice of character optimization. Also, assuming said warlock could choose one more feat, what what be a good choice?

PBS & WF apply as usual, Far Shot doesn't. (Eldritch Blasts don't have a range increment, just a maximum range.)

Precise Shot would be a better alternative.

This.

Point-Blank Shot
Precise Shot

Since eldritch blasts are touch attacks and the warlock already has medium BAB, piling Weapon Focus on top of it is a bit of overkill.

Instead, I'd go with one of those feats from CArcane that gives you spell-like abilities, or a Heritage feat (the Fey feat that grants DR x/cold iron stacks with the warlock's DR).

It's overkill to have a better chance at hitting your opponent?

I don't understand. :o

Touch attacks already bypass armor and natural armor, so the touch AC is usually much lower (for instance, check out a Great Wyrm Red Dragon's touch AC: 8).

If you can Power Attack: there's no such thing as too much attack bonus.

If you can't Power Attack: opportunity cost may be too expensive.

My choices would be PBS and Precise Shot for sure.

Yeah, there are far, far better things for a Warlock to spend a feat on than Weapon Focus. Flyby Attack, for example.

At first level, your to-hit is 0 (BAB) + Dex + Size + feats. Without any feats, that could easily be +2 or so. (The original post did talk about a first level warlock.)

A halfling rogue could easily have a touch AC of 15 (10 + 1(size) + 4 dex), so you need to roll a 13 to hit, or 40%. An additional +1 means an extra 5% hitting, or an extra 12.5% damage per attack. That's pretty worthwhile.

At low levels, there's a fair number of tiny or small, high-dex monsters to fight, so weapon focus at low levels could easily be worth it.

By the time you're willing to fight a great wyrm, your touch attacks are probably hitting except on a 1 or against really weird things (like monks).
