Warlocks, Book of Vile Darkness, and rulings.

Not when I've promised only to kill drow, turn the Underdark into Orcus' personal play ground, and make sure he becomes a god, thus killing off all the Drow panethon and assure vengence against Kiarselenee. Believe me I consider working with a paladin a minor inconvience/annoyance at best. If he gets in my way, then I'll kill him. If he cause me crap, so be it. But honestly this is how I want to run it.

Anyway Hyp, I'd REALLY appreciate it if you answer my other questions.

Yeah...trust the evil guy to stick to his word...good plan. SMITE!

Alright firstly, this thread isn't so much about a paladin and evil warlock folks. If it were (and I was also there at the start of character generation along with the paladin. He didn't object that much then and the DM didn't rule I couldn't. So it's a moot point.), then I'd be discussing something else entirely.

Now Thanee, I was more interested in things like Boost Spell-like ability along with Corrupt Spelli-like ability. However since I'll probably now go full half-fiend (thanks Al. And yes they should do the next Dragon Demonocion on you.), I might hold off on that and/or take it and go the rest of the 16 in warlock.

As for why not a CN, basically I could...but I feel then I'd have to do some good things and really if I want to violate drow corpses (especially raising them as undead servants), I don't think I'd be able to keep being CN. (Thank you SRD for turning animate dead and also mindless undead into evil. :p )

But thanks to Thanee and I would hope that Hyp can get to his books so I can get a ruling here for a 3.5 perspective.

And yes Morally ambigious since the other guys don't GIVE a crap about good evil or any thing like that. All they care about is treasure and personal wealth. Maybe killing a few orcs for prestige. The point is, while I am EVIL, they live in apathy. (Well other than the paladin that has 0 ranks in knowledge (religion) )

K...

Well in any case I do appreciate some input. I would like a few more insights IF people have any or at least more input regarding this character AND NOT about his alignment or his relationships with the party.

Well, I didn't see Acolyte of the Skin mentioned yet (Forgive me if I missed anything in a previous post), which could fit easily with your concept of becoming more demon like, and advances your warlock abilites.

Well, I'm not overly familiar with the BoVD, that's why I only mentioned the ones, where I know that they are not 3.5 compliant (that is the maximize/quicken stuff). I would just guess, since the problem is more of a general nature and not specific to those feats' effects, that this might be the same with all the feats, if you know what I mean. :)

Bye
Thanee

If you're looking for BoVD feats for a Warlock, consider Mortalbane. An extra 2d6 5 times a day for each damage doing power is nice. Quicken Spell Like Ability and Practiced Caster are also really handy.

If you're looking for something shamelessly munchkin, consider Warlock/Ur-Priest/Mystic Theurge. It takes a little contortion to get the prereqs in, but it's doable. I'm currently playing a Diviner 1/Monk 1/Warlock 3/Ur-Priest 2/Mystic Theurge 1 in a module-tastic game where the rest of the party is neutral except for a Vow of Peace/Vow of Poverty healer who's trying to keep the rest of the party from ever listening to my moral suggestions.

Uhm I already RAN this character last friday. The DM didn't have a problem.

You know, that only really tells me that this DM isn't really kosher. Or he likes backstabbing in the party. I always hate that. Even when I DM for a party full of drow and fey'ri, I require them to work together.

So the way I see it: The Paladin player should clearly state that he won't tolerate you in the party. If he won't, he should fall from grace pretty fast.

The DM should state that this can only result in party infighting.

You should never even consider playing this character in that party. You're basically introducing a character that either cannot stay in the party or will mess up someone else's character big time. If someone did that to me, I would not only request that the character leaves the party, I would request that the player reconsiders his choice and, if he persists, request that the player be kicked from the gaming group.

Belmont,

Eh. Not sure I want I want to go that route.

Thanee,

Just because they aren't 3.5 compliant doesn't mean they can't function. I mean does a regular 3.0 longsword STOP working in 3.5 just because it's a longsword from 3.0?

Just saying...

Kilroy,

Not sure I want to be THAT munckiny, but I'll keep that in mind later.

KaeYoss,

Well if it makes you feel any better I'd only do this in FR AND only when it comes to City of the Spider Queen. :p *thinks people are being a little harsh here at least in terms of this ONE character* Anyway I am working with the party. Just the fact we have a paladin might be my demise is very likely.

The Paladin's Player HAS stated he doesn't feel comfortable and feels a little out of place in a group. But so far it appears the DM doesn't mind or doesn't care so long as I'm not horribly evil. Which will be not for a long while JUST yet.

About the spell-like ability feats in BoVD. Those are 3.0 and (at least the ones I recall) don't work with the 3.5 rules, so you should take a look at how they work now (i.e. compare the MM/CA version to the BoVD version of empower/maximize/quicken (not sure, which of those were in there, but some were for sure)) and then interpolate accordingly, if your DM is ok with it.

I would just guess, since the problem is more of a general nature and not specific to those feats' effects, that this might be the same with all the feats, if you know what I mean. :)

Well, you're right and you're not.

By the RAW, there's no reason you can't use the BoVD feats as-is. None of them refer to any particular aspect of 3E that was changed/removed in 3.5E - none of them refer to refocusing, the Beast type, the emotion spell, etc. There's also nothing that says you can't use 3E materials in a 3.5E game.

That said, if you follow the spirit of the 3.5E revision, instead of the rules as written, there is something to be said about changing the BoVD feats in question. The best examples are Empower Spell-like Ability and Quicken Spell-like Ability, which are in the BoVD and the 3.5E MM. Using those as an example, you should change Corrupt Spell-like Ability and Violate Spell-like Ability so that, instead of being applied to each of the creature's spell-like abilities, respectively, thrice and twice per day, they are, when taken, applied to a specific spell-like ability, and can be used with it thrice per day (that should be true for both feats). You should also add a caster level prerequisite to each; I'd recommend 4th level for Violate and 8th for Corrupt (since the latter seems more powerful; these levels are just my offhand recommendations though). Finally, you should note that the feats can be taken multiple times, but each time they're taken they'll apply to a different spell-like ability.

Nightfall, hope that helps. :)
