Warlord - Commanding Prescence

I have been trying to make the four different warlords and at low levels there seems to be a lot of bad utility and encounter attack powers, and few good choices.

The exception for me is the Inspiring Warlord who has the right stat, charisma and the best special riders due to being inspiring. Mechanically ok/good and fun to play.

The tactical warlord has the best direct benefit, but the utility and encounter powers where just lackluster. Mechanically good, but boring to play.

(I have only looked at levels 1-10 as that is where we will be playing for.. the next year or so.)

I have seen some posts about boring warlords, so I would like some input. :)

Well, I think Warlord in general is one of those classes you will really enjoy if you like heavily tactical play. Its not the class you want if you enjoy whacking things yourself for lots of damage. That being said its quite possible for a warlord to be fairly deadly, just not on the same scale as a striker. Lots of people do seem to enjoy playing them.

One possibility might be to MC and pick up some powers you find more interesting in another class or play a hybrid with another class. Given that warlords can utilize a good variety of secondary stats it shouldn't be hard to combine it with some striker or controller capability from say Invoker or a wide variety of other classes. This is a good way to both have leader abilities in the party and say add some control if the party lacks a full time controller.

I'm currently playing a hybrid (Tactical)Warlord|Fighter. So far I enjoy it, but I don't think it is for everyone. His basic goal is to grant or force movement as often as possible, and to allow the main tank to do his job as efficiently as possible.

I could probably have done this with a straight fighter or warlord, but the hybrid allowed me to cherry pick the most useful powers (in my specific case) from each class. There are more, RP reasons for it, but that is my short mechanical justification.

Warlords, like good little leaders, work well at making the party work well. If your idea of fun is helping others be more efficient, good. If not, maybe another role is for you.

I have got access to the character builder, but at least for the Tactical Warlord there seems to be big gaping holes of boring utility/encounter powers at levels 1-10. It seems that most of the abilities trigger of charisma, not int.

I feel that the warlord is made in another way than other characters, due to the high importance of his two secondary stats, in addition to the four commanding presences. It severely limits the viable options you have. More powers, or multiclassing seem like very good options.
