Warlord

There are now two sources about this new class.
What clue do we have ?
1) it's name : it's war related.
2) it's role : it's supposed to be a leader
3) the fact that the Bard seems to be out. There is stuff to steal.
4) older classes, like the marshall, the aristocrat etc...

I think the warlord will be your typical charismatic leader, with good social and leadership skill. Something akin to Starwars noble. You wanna play the lost heir of the throne ? You need an archvillain that is not a wizard ? Here is the warlord, with decent combat ability, and able to inspire his ally with courage and determination.

The remaining questions is: will he have spells ? I fondly remember the first "warlord" I played, in a Steve Jackson game (no, not gurps, the other steve jackson) it was a spellcaster with martial skill...

Marshal++, as I've been hollerin'

But I must admit, with all those new-fangled Talent Trees, they're throwing my predictions left and right. Dem's da breaks.

I said this in another post - I bet this is a PrC not a base class. A 1st level warlord doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe if that's just a placeholder name....

I definitely think the game could use a charismatic leader type class, but please, WoTC, don't call it a warlord.

With talent trees, it could include any and all of the following concepts: the marshall/dragon shaman (aura tree), the bard (inspiration tree), or even the White Raven martial adept (maneuver tree).

I vote for the PrC too. The name screams PrC, IMHO. I mean, it doesn't make sense for a 1st level character, it's a name that sound important and specific, like Arch Mage or Master Thief or High Priest, and non-PrC names are more humble and generic, like Wizard, Rogue or Cleric.

Yeah, "Warlord" sounds drastically wrong for a core class. For a level 1 character with that type of role, I'd just keep the name "Marshall". Also "Leader" and "Tactician" sound pretty cool.

I remember how Mike Mearls named his last leader-type character class (in Iron Heroes) the freaking Hunter, of all things. That always felt painfully inappropriate, to me.

Warlord = Noble + Fighter, would be my guess. Basically like the "Officer" from SWSE. That's how I was approaching the idea for my conversion, at least. :)

I think the warlord will be a marshal/dragon shaman style "Aura" character. Actually, if you file the dragon name off dragon shaman, you might be on the right track...
