I'm gonna chime in here and say that I just saw the movie, and it was by far the best King movie I've seen since The Shawshank Redemption. This is not to say that your points are invalid, but it's to say that mine are just as valid. When it comes to movies, it comes down to personal tastes. Unless we're talking about objective type things like the quality of the picture, or something like that, these sorts of choices are completely subjective.

I'd argue that it's not terrible, and it's definately not a waste of time, and of course, I believe this to be true. Others, however, may not. In both cases, you can't really know whether or not you'll enjoy a movie unless you see it yourself or ask someone you believe to have compatible tastes in movies, or at least the same level of tolerance.

Not that I'm opposed to people posting their opinions on the board or anything, they can say whatever they like, but I am saying that opinions presented aren't worth all that much unless you're quite familiar with the people who are posting their reviews.

Umm have you forgotten The Stand? Yes the book was way better, but at an 8 hour movie, it was very awesome.

Also, Rose Red, Storm of the Century and The Langoliers were taken from the script exactly. They were AWESOME.

This movie was ok. I guess the book will be better

The Stand was great up until the last two hours... got a little too hokey for me, not really dark enough.

Overall, I was pretty bored with the movie - it seemed too drag. Characters were vastly underused, and there was some parts that didn't make sense that others have already mentioned. I thought the general concept was cool, just not how I would have used it. In short, I'm really glad I saw the movie for free.

I think The Stand came out as a mini-series before The Shawshank Redemption, so when I say "since (this movie)," I sort of mean it, hehe. But I'm not sure that I'd categorize The Stand as a theatrical movie -- different medium means a different set of expectations and biases.

I've skipped the spoilers, since I'm guaging the movie...but a couple of quick notes. The Stand was a TV mini-series, and it suffered from the same problem as the book...it's ending was dramatically unsatisfying. A common criticism of 'The Stand' (and 'It', for that matter) was that the ending came, and then the book continued on for another 200 pages.

The Langoliers may have been faithful to the book, but it was terrible, IMHO. Rose Red, like those two, was a TV mini-series, so I'm not sure it's a fair comparison, but both Rose Red and the TV version of The Shining were very good.

Does anybody know if the TV movie version of The Shinning is on video or DvD? I can never find it to rent and I missed it when it actualy aired
IT and the Stand are two of my favorite King novels...and I dont think they rambled on after the "end"...especialy not the Stand. Stephen King isnt like other horror writers...or perhaps it'd be better to say he's almost the apotheosis of the "real" horror writer. Most of his books...especialy the biggies like IT and the Stand have a lot of things to say. their not just about killing the monster.
If you guys havent read it I would strongly recomend Danse Macabre the book he wrote about the horror genre from like 1950-80. I just finished it today for the 3rd time. Lots of nifty insights into horror stories...and into King himself
