Wars - the RPG

MongooseMatt

First Post
It is the 24th Century. Mankind has split into three rival factions within the Solar System and conflict was inevitable across the planets as they fight for independence and resources. Now full scale warfare has descended upon humanity and the fate of billions hangs in the balance.

In another universe, a powerful race known as the Shi plundered other races for technology and slaves, their intellect and science allowing them to dominate any who stood in their path. Their 'Rift' technology allowed them to travel through space at will to launch devastating attacks. So it was until they met the Quay.

Though enslaved, the Quay rose up against the Shi and caused a cataclysmic event that forced their former masters to stretch their technology to the utmost limits. Ripping their homeworld through the fabric of the cosmos, they managed to establish orbit around a new star - humanity's own. A new planet now turns between what was once Mars and the asteroid belt but this dramatic shift caused a gigantic rent in the fabric of time and space to be created - the Mumon Rift. Unfortunately for the Shi, the Quay managed to follow them through the rift. Unfortunately for humanity, two new, very powerful races now compete for living space and resources.

The entire Solar System stands poised for events that could shatter entire worlds. Whether you choose to ally yourself with the Earthers, the Gongens or the Mavericks, humanity is looking for a few good heroes. Are you ready to sign up?

The Shi, huh? They don't happen to look like Asian warrior women in white face-paint, do they? :)

I'm anxious to see what you guys do with a Wars RPG. The TCG looked cool, but my 12-step program as a recovering MtG addict keeps me from touching anything collectible. ;)

Congratulations on the license, Matt. Wars has all the makings of a fantastic RPG. Looking forward to seeing it. :)
Meh. :\

Not to rain on your parade, Matt, congratulations, but ever since Decipher took over both Star Trek and The Lord of the Rings roleplaying game lines, the executive management have not treated their game design studio very well. For a company that was supposed to be WotC's rival, their output of RPG products have slowed to a halt, while they aggressively promote their licensed TCGs. As a result, they got my vote of no-confidence.

I just hope they give you carte blanche as well as full support and not restrict you in the development, publication, and distribution of RPGs.

Fair warning. Be careful.

Decipher is suffering from the stubbornness of not wanting to make their games modified D20 or OGL. They thought the Stark Trek and LotR licenses would sell themselves and they didn't.

No. I don't think that is a valid reason when you have other game publishers doing well without using d20 rules.

It's their marketing strategy, or lack thereof, when it comes to pushing their RPG wares. Most of their resources are devoted to TCG. They built their company on TCG, following the trend set forth by a RPG company that created the TCG hobby (WotC).

Not a good attitude, especially when the company is ever pushing for their TCG wares but neglecting any aggressive marketing push for their RPG wares. I mean, all I hear about from them is their TCG during the LOTR film hypes. I think I only hear once maybe twice they are pushing for their LOTR RPG.

Some products can sell by themselves but only if you as a business is not expecting a quick rush of income, and you are very comfortable paying your business expense out of your own pocket. Marketing is a crucial tool in business.

Great! I always thought Wars would make a great roleplaying game. I assume it will use D20 Future rules?
At least Decipher took my advice and create their own original IP. Up until now, all their wares are based on product licensing, which means they have to pay the IP owners and franchises a portion of their sales as royalty.
