Was EN World down over the last couple of days?

Was EN World down about 24-48 hours ago. I tried to get on the site yesterday and the day before that with no luck. Mortality.net (which I believe lives on the same server) also seemed to be down.

Was the server down? Could other people get on to the site or was something wrong on my end?

I checked the forums and there didn't seem to be a "break" in the times of posting. I remember a couple of years ago, a lot of people in Australia and Asia not being able to access EN World for a couple of weeks, even though for others it was business as usual. Hopefully that was the case. I hope it wasn't something to just do with me.

Did any Australians have trouble accessing the site on the weekend?

I am in Okinawa, Japan and I am having problems accessing the site from home but I can from work. I've tried it on both my desktops (one is a Win XP box and the other is a Linux box) and have had no success. I've even tried on my laptop from home using an entirely different connection and still no luck. I wonder if the DNS server that the ISP uses for some reason has a problem? Not quite sure what is going on but it is frustrating to not have access from home.

It hasn't been down but, yes, Australians have been having routing issues.

That's good to know in some respects. The problem isn't just with me. In other ways it still doesn't make it any better though! :)

Spoony or Morrus, do you know what could be causing this problem? I just saw in General that Merric had no problem in getting on the site on the weekend (he's also in Australia). Any ideas of what I could do to try and solve this problem?

Short of building an SSH tunnel no, there isn't anything you can do. Even then, if the break is widespread enough across the net that won't work.

Forgive my ignorance, but what would cause this sort of thing. Up until a week or so ago I could access EN World from home. Now I can't. What do you think are the chances that the problem will fix itself?

I think it's to do with the routing that different ISPs use. Somewhere along the line, some of the Australian ISPs send ENWorld requests via a dud route. Bigpond people are having no problems, but Optus and (as far as I know) Netspace users seem to be out of luck.

As for it fixing itself - theoretically it should eventually, but don't hold your breath. I can occasionally take a peek at the site when I'm at work, but I haven't been able to access ENWorld from home (via Optus) for nearly a month now. Glad I didn't shell out for a community supporter membership, really...
