When I was picking up my copy today at my FLGS, the manager told me that all they received for the early release was the limited edition cover. But it's a small store, and he said that probably if they ordered more books in general they would have received a larger shipment that would have included some of the non-limited versions.

The rule with 5e has always been that preferred gaming stores get to sell books 11 days earlier than major retailers like Amazon.

I got my book already.
They had 1 copy of the limited edition with the alternate cover left, and then they had a bunch of the regular books left.

Where can I find out if my FLGS is one of the preferred stores?

Call your FLGS on the telephone and ask them about it. If they're a preferred store, then someone there has to know that fact.

If they ask you, "What's a preferred store?" then they might not be -- or you might simply be speaking to the wrong person there.

Mine only had the limited edition, but lots of them. It did save me the trouble of agonizing over which version to get!
