D&D General Was the court Wizard right to Polymorph The heir from A Teenager into A Baby because she knew the villain would kill A Teenager but not A Baby?

So quick thing. Polymorph does not change a person. The Baby is still the girl, and normally will change back into the girl once the spell ends (If this was a permanent polymorph then their is a good chance they would not even look like the same person if they simply aged cause you can’t really do same person but younger unless you knew them).

The big thing is why would this stop the villain. Even if he won’t kill a baby, his target is not a baby, being magically disguised as a baby does not change who she is, it’s just a fake baby.

The biggest thing is why would the Wizard use True Polymorph on the heir instead of on the attacker. Just turn them into a turtle.
The answer is that the court wizard is so desperate to save the heirs life that she Polymorphs her from A 14 year old Teenager into A 5 month old baby but she isn't evil enough to Polymorph the attacker into something that would be very easy to kill

Aside from all the gamist shenanigans: Absolutely he was right to do this thing. The kingdom now has a legitimate heir that, in time, will be able to come back and reclaim the throne. In this sort of scenario, little else matters including the heirs wishes on the matter. That decision was taken out of her hands the instant she became the only heir*.

Gamist Shenanigans: Amusing that people seem to assume the court wizard somehow has access to and has learned every convenient spell he needs or would want.

*without knowing more about the GM's world setting, etc etc.
I've said on several occasions that The Court Wizard is A Female, but I will admit that that's partly my fault because I forgot to mention that the country this happens in is the only country in the world were The Title of Court Wizard is unisex, meaning it can be given to A Female

But I will say that all other Magical Titles say either Witch or Wizard, 1 example is that depending on gender the Court Wizards Deputy is called either Deputy Court Wizard or Deputy Court Witch

I don't get the logic. It's not evil to defend your charge. It's polymorphing your charge into something easy to kill vs the enemy. And you don't even have to kill the enemy you can just keep him as a turtle.

I don't think the gender matters very much, lots of people just did not read your whole post cause it was very long and rambling.

Also, I find myself not very impressed by a “villain” who balks at killing a baby. It’s just not very villainous. Don’t villains have some sort of guild to uphold standards of professionalism?

I don’t know, I think it’s more interesting for villains to have points of vulnerability, same as it’s more interesting for heroes to have flaws. Being unwilling to harm babies is an interesting trait for an otherwise completely ruthless villain to have.

I agree, I have no problems with a villain who might not be all that villainous, just "an antagonist". To them, a helpless heir who cannnot ascend to the throne is just as good as a dead one. Heck, imagine a villain who uses this kind of polymorph magic to show enemies mercy instead of murdering them!

"You see, Princess, the aristocracy and the monarchy are the problems with this world. I propose to replace them all with a meritocracy, where the fit rule, and no one has privilege just because of their bloodline. But as long as you live, some will see you as a symbol, and wish to overthrow my new order, and elevate you to a Monarch, whether you would be a good and just ruler or a despot. No tower, no prison, no dungeon I have would stop that.

It only ends with your death...however, I have an alternative solution. My Wizard possesses a powerful magical device that can transform you into a small child. Too young to ascend to the throne- but you would be alive, and live for a very, very long time. Further, I will ensure you will be taken care of and live comfortably...at least until someone succeeds me.

So what will it be? Life or death?"

How is polymorphing them into a child different to locking them in a prison? They can still potentially grow up to be the ruler they were going to be, and their supporters can wait for that to happen (or find a way to reverse the de-aging – just like they might find a way to release their leader from prison or whatever).

If you want to ensure that the leader cannot come back, death (and destruction of the body to prevent resurrection) is the only way.

Sorry, I was making a reference to one of your earlier threads about a succubus that was the equivalent of a nine-month-old. I didn’t think you were actually considering making this new character a succubus, I just found the parallel amusing. You seem to put a great deal of emphasis on characters’ precise ages.
I wasn't initially planning on doing that, but when I read your suggestion I thought it would be a interesting twist

I've had a better idea on how to protect her

Since the palace has Slaves how about I add in A 5 month old Slave Girl and The Court Wizard use's 2 more Polymorph Other Spells, 1 to swap The appearance of The now 5 month old Princess with that of The 5 month old Slave Girl and the other swaps The appearance of The 5 month old Slave Girl with that of The Now 5 month old Princess, it won't work for more then A week but that should be long enough
