Watches

I have an older model fitbit thingy so the wife can think I'm healthy.

Otherwise, I quit wearing watches when cellphones came out. And even then, pocketwatches are the best.

I love real (non smart) analogue watches. If I were rich, I’d have a nice expensive Rolex or something. Somebody mentioned the Omega Seamaster up there, and I like the Rolex Submariner. Both 007 watches, coincidentally. A nice watch is like a nice piece of jewellery. But better. And it tells the time.

I can’t be without a watch. Feel weird without one. And I certainly can’t be bothered digging around in my pocket to get my phone every time I need the time. (Plus it’s not exactly subtle....)

I agree with Lowkey that if you’re going smartwatch, the only game in town is the Apple one.

I don’t know if I’ll ever get a smart watch for myself, but I'm seriously considering getting one for my Mother. It’s a safety issue. Don’t know if she’d still wear her other ones simultanously or not. She has a few nice ones.

So does my Dad- a Roles and a Versace.

But me? i have a small wardrobe of standard watches- mostly Seikos- that is growing smaller as some of them give up the ghost. My day-to-day is a Movado I was iven as a birthday gift some years ago, and I have a Festina and an Invictus as well. I’ve owned several Timex Atlantis digitals for use in the gym and pool, buying a new one when the old ones kick it. I’d love to get a Hamilton Ventura at some point...

But I digress.

If I were to recommend a smart watch, I’d go with an Apple, for a variety of reasons, some of which might not apply to you. (Like, most of my computer/mobile device environment is Apple products, so integration of the watch would be seamless.)

For a standard watch, you have to decide whether you want mere functionality or if style is a concern.

My old Casio digital watch would go for a year on its battery. I probably wore it for 15 years before the stretchable band broke and I finally went looking for another. Under $50 for the same functions but a traditional 'buckle' band.

If money IS an object...
