Watching UNBREAKABLE again...

There's something great about plucking one of your movies off the shelf and putting it in without any great interest, just as background noise while you work, and then being opened again to the marvel of it. I sat through the special features and deleted scenes, and now have put the movie on. I'm back in that world, and reminded entirely of how much I love this movie. I can't wait to get to the part where David stands up from the pool and the music swells.

I know this isn't an uncommon sentiment, but I'm greatly enjoying M. Night's career so far. On the second disc he talks about making "feature-length Twilight Zones", and I'm filled with glee. What a hell of a great way to go about making movies. Just lovely. This is the kind of thing I might ramble about once in a while: "Wouldn't it be great if a director came out and made a series of supernatural dramas about tired genres, in entirely new and effective ways. Kinda like feature-length Twilight Zones."

Enough gushing. I read on AICN that the next Shyamalan film will concern ouija boards. Ahh. I wish I could buy the man a beer.

M. Night is certainly the man. I loved Unbreakable. Signs and The Sixth Sense were great as well. Any new movie he makes is an automatic see for me.

Oh and BTW, that AICN ouija board story was a fraud. :(

Oh, crap. Thanks. That would have been cool... of course, with his track record, whatever he tries next is likely to be cool. I hope he keeps to the formula.

I've been trying to think of future topics for him. He's done ghosts, superheroes and UFOs so far, so what's left? He tends to go for major genres and turn them on their heads.

My thoughts: ESP, magic in some form, time travel (he'd be great with paradoxical situations), religion (although this was touched on in Signs).

Any more?

That would be fantastic. He hasn't done a monster movie... I'd like to see a Shyamalan werewolf movie. Some archetypal monster. Werewolves. Vampires. Mummies. Something like that.

Wow- what if M. Night made a kaiju (giant monsters- godzilla, etc.) movie?

I believe I just soiled myself.

Oh man. I'm such a sucker for a good time travel flick. That would be great! Other topics I would love to see him tackle: Compters, the Pyramids and (wait for it) D&D. I think he could do some serious justice in a movie about tabletop RPG's. Could be some kind of horror-suspence type thing or something completely different. Wax on... :)

Watching UNBREAKABLE again...

Now the only question is why?

I saw it in the theater, and walked away thinking it was the worst movie I have ever seen. The entire movie just erupted with howls of laughter when Samuel L Jackson reveals that he is "Mr. Glass" towards the end. Not the good kind of laughing either.
