Watching UNBREAKABLE again...

Now the only question is why?

I saw it in the theater, and walked away thinking it was the worst movie I have ever seen. The entire movie just erupted with howls of laughter when Samuel L Jackson reveals that he is "Mr. Glass" towards the end. Not the good kind of laughing either.
Those were obviously the folks who didn't like it or simply didn't get it. If you are one of the above then it's too bad that you didn't get the same amount of enjoyment that myself and others did from it. Or maybe it just wasn't your cup of tea....

I sincerely doubt everyone was laughing at it. For example, I know a good number of people who swear everyone was laughing at Yoda in his recent fight scene. I swear the laughter was applause at seeing Yoda fight- which is why I was laughing.

I know a handful of people who didn't like or even hated Unbreakable but- and I'm not saying this in some condescending jab- they were all people whose opinions I don't respect very much... dumb. Dull.

What's not to like?

Oh man. I'm such a sucker for a good time travel flick.

How can you tell? There are so few out there to be a sucker for... :)

Given his habits to date, I don't think Shyamalan will take on time travel, for a simple reason - time travel exists to complicate plot. His movies have extremely simple plots. A fundamental mismatch.

Too true!! I should have said media. I even like some of the not-so-good ones. I am facinated by the subject, even in a non-sensical way. :)

Well, they do, you are right. I don't know about Morrus, but I'm thinking time travel in more like a Planet of the Apes (the book) way. A very simple mechanism but it works well with the plot.

There are a handful or two of directors who make films the way I would want to make them. John Ford, Preston Sturges, Sam Fuller, Sam Raimi, and Spielberg, to name a few. Shyamalan is going to make that list pretty soon.

One thing I noticed in all people that didn't like Unbreakable is that they went to the movie expecting some supernatural story and never quite realized they were watching a superhero movie.

I can only imagine what M. Night would do with a Watchmen movie... >sigh<

Unbreakable is, to me, the most realistic superhero movie ever made, and I loved it for it. The marketing, OTOH, was completely off. Here in Brazil they even translated the title with a term that pertains to a magic-induced immunity to injury, from african-brazilian tradition. I once thought of a poster for this movie that had the sillouette of David Dunn in the Security raincoat under that pouring rain, with the tagline "Heroes are real". Anyone noticed how much he resembles the Spectre at times, with the green hood and all?

Signs just had me glued to the chair. I cringed and was spooked and when that first alien showed up in the TV (in Brazil, no less!), my reaction was identical to Joaquin Phoenix's!

And of course, Sixth Sense is waay up there...

I went into the movie not knowing what to expect. Yeah, I knew it was about this guy who never got hurt, but I never put the superhero theme together with it. Actually, for most of the movie, I thought it was going to be pretty good, but as it got towards the end, when the superhero theme really comes out, I thought it got kinda hokey. Maybe it was because I didn't go in to the movie realizing it was a superhero movie, I don't know. So perhaps it wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen, but it was definitely not what I was expecting.
