Watermark's Temple of Mysteries

"Look at the mosaics" says Jarten. "The people in it comes from that direction, and ends here." Jarten moves in front of the eastern wall. "If there´s an exit, it should be here."

"But we have to do something with him." says pointing at Thar. "I don´t know if he´s simply paralized or he lost his consciousness, but I hope we can find out"

He moves in front of him. "Hear! can you move your eyes? Looking upwards is yes, looking down is no."

If that fails: "Can you blink your eyes? Blink once is yes, twice is no."

And if that fails, he picks a piece of the mirror: "And control your breath? Hold it for a couple seconds is yes." He holds the mirror in front of Thar´s mouth, so it gets misted if he breathes.

Hearing Darian's words, Therren turns to stare at him a moment with narrowed eyes (sense motive).

In answer to Jarten's words regarding the mosaic, he responds, "Perhaps the statues are part of the puzzle. Look how they resemble those people in the mosaic but are positioned differently."

He re-examines the bases to see if they've been moved at all.

Grimbold, protecting his cut hands with the folds of this clothing, carefully removes the shards of the broken mirror the wall, curious to see what, if anything lies on the wall where the mirror had been hung.

Bookkeeping

OOC:

Just a couple points of clarification needed....

1. Did either Aieron or Grimbold take any of the items found on the skeletal corpse they searched (need to know to update character sheets).

2. Just a detail, but there actually is no light source in the present room the party is exploring, so one or more of the PCs must be providing light. I just need to know who and how.

All for now....next turn will come out tonight when I get home from work!

Glancing back down at the corpse at his feet, Aieron scoops up the glowing coin and the flask of alchemist's fire. He gently stores the flask away and then walks towards the rest of the group, holding the coin in front of himself.

"I'm really not sure I like this place at all. We need to figure a way out of here and soon."

Darien holds a torch high with one hand, the tip of his greatsword clinking on the floor as he walks with it point down in the other.

"Yeah, maybe you're onto something there." He walks towards Therren, helping him in his examination of the statues.

[FYI, a note about search checks...I will require specific information about searches in order to have a chance to find certain things. For example, if the drawers of a desk are searched, it will not allow for a PC to find a note taped to the desk's underside. The player would have to state that the character is looking underneath the desk. So be specific about where you search and what you're looking for! ;)]

Unfortunately, none of Jarten's efforts prove fruitful. Thar is unresponsive, staring blankly ahead. His breathing rises and falls, steady but shallow, as though he were sleeping.

Jarten searches his pockets before looking ahead and mutter something. Then he concentrates. [OOC: detect evil, examine the whole room]

Jarten walks around the room, turning his attention to the task of finding the presence of evil, no matter how faint. But, there is no emanation of wickedness to be found anywhere.

Darian starts looking at the fallen wall that now blocks the party's excape, searching for an obvious mechanism or method of raising it.

Darian searches the western wall that has now sealed the group in the room, [Search Roll 1+1=2] but he can see no means of exit, or of raising the wall.

[Sense motive check 4-1=3] Therren isn't able to discern anything further about the meaning of Darian's comment.

Grimbold carefully lifts the mirror from the wall, but sees nothing of note beneath it. The face of the supplicant in the mosaic looks similar to those of all the others.

Deciding that his skills would better serve the company with the closer statues, Therren examines their bases to see if they've been moved at all or even could be.Hmmm.... I wonder why their statues are in different places than they are in the mosaic....?

[FYI, I randomly determined the order in which the statues are examined]

Therren turns his attention to the three statues, particulary at the bases. First, he searches that of the middle statue (the curly-haired man with beard and upraised staff), [search check 4+9=13] but discovers nothing of note. There is no sign that the statue has been moved at any time, or that it is even intended to be moved. Second, he moves to the northern-most statue (the dark-complected man with sword and torch), [search check 7+9=16] but again sees no sign of the statue having been moved. Finally, he moves to the final statue (the sword-bearing woman in robes) and searches....only to withdraw his hand in surprise! At his slightest touch, the statue stirs, animating and raising its sword to strike!

[Yep, we're in combat! Initiative order follows, please post combat actions for at least one round. However, I prefer longer-term tactics and objectives (including conditional actions), so as to increase the likelihood that I will be able to run more than one round at a time. This prevents the game from getting too bogged down when combat occurs. Therren is right next to the animated statue, as is Darian, who has just approached to assist in the search. Aieron is by the corpse he was searching, a mere 10 feet away. Jarten is in the middle of the room, so as to use his detect evil ability, 15 feet away. Grimbold is on the other side of the room in the SE corner (next to Thar and holding the smashed mirror), 40 feet away from the statue.

Initiative Rolls:
Therren rolls 13+7=20
Darian rolls 7+5=12
Aieron rolls 5+2=7
Jarten rolls 15+3=18
Grimbold rolls 3+1=4

Initiative Order:
1.Therren
2.Jarten
3.Darian
4.statue
5.Aieron
6.Grimbold

Combat actions please?

Darien jumps back in shock, eyes wide when he sees the motion. He reacts quickly, however, dropping his torch to the floor and raising up his greatsword, swinging in a wide arc over his head.

OOC: Darien's a pretty straight forward fighter, so I plan on hacking the statue to bits, taking as many rounds as needed. I assume you are making all rolls, which is great by me.

Grimbold is likewise taken off guard by the statue's animation. Upon noticing the cries of the others, he drops the mirror, and it takes him a few moments to find the axe slung over back. He remains calm however, and hustles toward the statue, rearing his axe head back for a mightly blow.

[OOC: 40 feet puts the statue within range of 1 move action. He will move then attack. If he can, without giving an AoO, move to a flanking position with an ally. If not, he will just attack. If the statue starts dishing out damage rapidly, Grim will fly into a murderous rage and begin to beat on the thing with all of his fury. If he is badly wounded, he'll fall back and risk the AoO.]
