Watermark's Temple of Mysteries

Seeing what happened, Jarten starts drawing and throwing axes until he runs out of them or the shot becomes difficult because of all the people fighting it. Then he draws the sword and moves around the statue, trying to flank it. If the statue is too hard, use Power Attack as needed.

Aieron takes a quick step back as he begans the incantations and hand motions required to complete a spell.

[[He's going to open up with Scorching Ray if he has an open shot and progress on to Magic Missile the next round. After that he will drop the glowing coin and use his bow against the thing. If one of the front line fighters is getting singled out then he'll cast mage armour on them.]]

Almost yelping in surprise - Yikes! - Therren jumps back, pulling out his short sword. He will try to position himself on the direct opposite side of the statue from one of his companions and gets some jabs in. if he gets too battered, he'll back off and try his luck with his longbow (staying within 30' to take advantage of his archery skills).

[Therren will use as much subterfuge in combat as possible - flanking, bluffing then using his sneak attack ability, short range archery. He's not foolhardy, though, and will protect himself wherever possible]

[occ: sorry about the long wait. :( :heh: ]

Fight!

Round 1:

Therren, first to react to trouble, as he so often is, circles around the statue to the opposite side from Darian, and jabs with his short sword. The sword connects, but to Therren's dismay, it shatters into pieces with the blow! To make matters worse, the statue seems hardly the worse for wear as a result of the strike. Jarten draws and then launches a throwing axe with practiced motion. But, cautious as he is of his companions' proximity, his aim is off, and the axe sails wide. Darian hefts his mighty greatsword above his head, and brings it smashing down into the statue! It's a solid blow, sending chips of stone flying in all directions. The animated statue, tracking the one who first touched it, swings its sword at Therren. The blow is slow and cumbersome, however, and the rogue easily sidesteps to avoid harm. Aieron chants the words of an arcane spell, and launches a ray of searing flame at the statue. Lke Jarten, however, his aim is hampered by the presence of his friends, and the ray just misses over the statue's head. From across the room, Grimbold drops the mirror and launches his powerful legs into action. As he closes, he smoothly draws his greataxe, and slams into the statue with great force, hacking a large furrow into the stone.

Round 2:

Therren takes one quick step backward, to avoid the statue's blade, and fluidly draws his longbow, nocks, and fires! The arrow strikes hard at such close range, right in the statue's face, sending more stone chips flying. Jarten, deciding not to risk throwing more axes, draws his sword and wades into melee, bringing his longsword to bear on the statue. Alas, the strike glances off the thing's stony exterior. Darian raises his greatsword for a second strike, taking deliberate measure to put as much power as he can into the blow. His sword connects with a mighty crunch, taking a tremendous toll on the statue's integrity. Chunks of stone fall everywhere, yet the statue somehow still stands. Indeed, it turns its attention now to Grimbold, slicing with its blade, but fortunately the blow glances off the barbarian's chain shirt. Aieron, meanwhile, launches another spell, as two bolts of glowing energy arc from his fingertips and slam into the statue. Unfortunately, it seems as though the statue is completely unfazed by the missiles. Grimbold, eager to end the fight, raises his greataxe once more, and brings it home, successfully striking once more! His axe splits the statue in two, and the thing crumbles to so much powdery rubble!

OOC: There you go, one Caryatid Column bites the dust, and the only casualty is Therren's short sword. Well done! Feel free to amend the above with suitable role-playing for your character if you wish.

Post-combat actions please?

Jarten breathes a couple times before going to recover his axe, and quickly puts it back at his belt. "I sure needed some exercise." He starts searching the rubble that was the statue and the place it was standing on, looking for any clue.

"Is everyone well?" asks then. "And we still have to do something withy our paralized friend."

As his adrenalin surge calms down, Therren shakes off any lingering nerves. Stooping, he picks up the pommel of his formerly beautiful masterwork shortsword and one of the bigger pieces of the blade. "What the ...?????," he mutters to himself as he turns the pommel around in his hand, trying to figure out what could possibly have happened. At Jarten's words, his worried gaze returns to the still motionless cleric. "Aye, that we do."

[ooc: was the shattering of my lovely sword due to abominable dice rolls or some unknown danger?]

Darien's wide grin hasen't left his face since the end of combat. "Right then! Felt good to get some good licks in on that thing." He reaches down and wipes his leggings off absently, send a small cloud of dust towards the floor.

"Don't think we're any closer to getting out of here, though. Anyone game for setting off another of those statues?" he says with mischeif in his eyes.

A reluctant smile enters Therren's eyes for the first time since the wall slammed down. He lifts his empty pommel to Darien in toast. "Fine, but this time YOU first!" he says with a wry grin.

"Ha! I don't think so. With the speed you jumped back, I think I vote for you to poke any statues we meet." Darien's grin narrows a bit. "Sorry 'bout your sword, though. Tough luck, eh?"
