Watermark's Temple of Mysteries

"What´s that metal thing you got?" says Jarten. "Could be some kind of key?"

"Anyway, this place is too weird. Too many strange things. And it feels evil... a disturbing feeling, now that I think on it. I believe there must be an exit, just hidden behind a puzzle."

While saing this Jarten thoroughly searches the eastern wall (the one with the mosaic of the three thrones, I think, taking 20 if he has the time and looking for a secret door. If e has no success, he examines the cauldron, the ropes and the wood next to it.)

Thar turns back to examine the contents of the drawer.
"Huh, potions." Thar lifts a vial out to read the label. "And a funny stick."

[ooc: Thar intends to read all the labels. If he cannot understand them, then he'll cast Comprehend Languages. He does not touch the funny stick.]

Thar looks over the vials, and attempts to read the labels, but they are written in an unfamiliar tongue, and thus indecipherable. A quick prayer to Vrunnal [casts Comprehend Languages] soon rectifies that problem, however. A brief inventory of each vial yields the following:

Vial 1 labeled 'For ear damage'....blue and bubbly.
Vial 2 labeled 'For pure water'....white.
Vial 3 labeled 'For luck'...golden and sparkling.
Vial 4 labeled 'For poison'....black.
Vial 5 labeled 'For climbing'...green and oily.

[OOC: Just to clarify, be aware that there is not actually an aura of evil detected anywhere in the room. Not to say Jarten can't be disturbed by what is in the room, but I just didn't want there to be any confusion.]

[We'll stick to a thorough examination of the wall for now; examining the cauldron and wood can be on the next turn.] Jarten takes his time going over the whole of the eastern wall, carefully looking for any hidden panels, latches, etc. [Jarten search Check]. Unfortunately, nothing untoward turns up. Indeed, an examination of the secret panel which held the potions and cylinder reveals that it was concealed so cleverly, that it seems very unlikely that it would have been discovered at all, had Thar not known where to look.

Therren moves closer to Thar for a closer look at the potions and especially the copper cylinder.

Captain Tagon said:
Aieron moves over to where Thar is and taps him lightly on the shoulder. "Excuse me, can I have a look at what you found?"

[See above for a more detailed description of the potions.] The copper cylinder measures 12 inches long and 6 inches in diameter. It is hollow and open on both ends, although one end features an inner ring connected by three thin supports. The cylinder itself has a number of strange small shapes cut out of it.

OOC: Okay, what next?

Grimbold will examine the other statues, seemingly unfraid of another animation. If there are any unusual marks or bumps on the statues he will be especially interested.

A quick prayer to Vrunnal [casts Comprehend Languages]...

Thar squints at the strange writing, then straightens to his full height. Rubbing a thick thumb against the label, he begins chanting, "Vrunnal know, I know. Vrunnal know, I know. Vrunnal know, I know." With each repitition, he lifts the burnt chunk of wood around his neck and touches it lightly to his forehead. A wispy glow builds upon the holy symbol and weaves like mist among the thick hairs on his head. Thar looks at the label again, and nods in satisfaction.

Stepping back to allow others access to the funny stick, Thar reads each label out loud as he deciphers. He shows the vials plainly to Therren and Aieron, pointing to the writing as he reads. Vial number 3 draws a wide toothy grin across his face. Once he has named all five, he turns to them. "Vrunnal's sight shows me, but my eyes not hold his great sight forever. Can we mark them?" He mimes writing on the labels, and looks around hopefully.

Therren's eyes widen at the various potions. "Do these varied kinds of potions indicate the kinds of troubles we'll find?" he wonders aloud.

[if there are markings on the different bottles] in answer to Thar's question, he suggests, "perhaps we'll remember the various markings??

then, he very carefully picks up the "pretty stick" to examine it more closely, seeing if he recognizes the cutout shapes or possibly its use.

Thar's comment about the vials snaps Darian out of his doldrums. He had been walking about aimlessly for minutes now, barely even noting that the half-orc came out of his paralysis.

"Yeah, that's a good idea. No point in wastin' what little knowledge we've got. Anyone got some ink? Charcol? Chalk?"

Darian looks about at each of his companions.

"That metal thingy must have something to do with getting us outta here. Anyone see any holes that it might fit in? I knew this dwarf once that made keys that looked sorta like that."

Edit:

OOC: Sorry about my lack of attention, folks.

Maybe Darian's knowledge of engineering might help? He will take a look for any stonework that might appear to be non-structural or thinner than the other walls.

Grimbold moves back across the room and begins to carefully look over the two remaining statues. He notices that the tip of the staff wielded by the first statue is not made of stone like the rest, but is in fact what appears to be a piece of amber. [Search Skill Check: 9] He sees nothing else unusual about either of the two remaining statues.

Jarten shakes his head and curses loudly, then turns his attention to the cauldron.

Jarten, frustrated by his inability to get anywhere with the walls, turns his attention to the cauldron. The large black cauldron rest near the north wall, positioned on three short legs over a small fire pit. The 6-inch deep pit is filled with partially burned kindling and ash; more kindling is stacked nearby [not to be confused with the pile of rope and lumber]. the cauldron itself is black iron, about 3 feet across, and almost that high. The wall next to the cauldron and the ceiling above it both bear a very faint green stain. [Search Skill Check: 12] A closer look reveals flakes of green residue in the bottom of the cauldron.

[NPC] Aieron offers up his pen and ink, and assists Thar in labeling each of the potion vials in the common tongue.

The shapes are seemingly random, some geometric, some more abstract. Its use remains unknown.

Darian begins circling the perimeter of the room, seeking any variances or oddities. [Search Skill Check: 21] [Knowledge Engineering Skill Check: 14] His efforts don't reveal anything new or unusual, however.
