(Way OT) How bad is the heat wave in Europe?

I can see changes for Europe in the coming century, if things continue as they have.
1. A monsoonal flow from the Mediterranean in the summer resulting in increased rainfall.
2. A lower water level in the Med, resulting in increased flow at Gibralter and Instanbul. Plus the need to dredge the Suez Canal deeper. Which will affect trade.
3. The introduction of a sub-tropical biome to Southern Europe. Escaped monkeys and parrots will have an easier time of it. (Florida U.S.A. has colonies of free living rhesus macaques, and my home town has colonies of macaus (sp?) in the beach area.)
4.The adoption of North African architectural features as standard in many European homes. And the adoption of loose fitting clothing plus the increased 'use' of near or complete public nudity to keep cool. (When it's hot and humid you want air to flow easily over your skin, and clothing sorts of gets in the way.)
Remember, when propriety becomes a threat to life and limb it is quickly discarded.

Well, as far as I know, global warming will lead to local cooling. Since the gulf-current might be diverted, if the ice continues to melt at the north pole. If the gulf-current suddenly end off the coast of spain, we would have a BIG problem.
Furthermore, the melting of ice might lead to heightened sea levels. 1-2 meters increase = goodbye Denmark and Holland...

..errr....I thought this board was a General RPG Discussion....DOH !!!
Well exccuuuuussssee me for saying that this thread should not be in the General RPG discussion. But what the heck, and just to throw my 2 pence in, it's bloody hot,humid,sticky,sweltering, and very unpleasent in the UK at the moment, considering the UK has a problem with getting their finger out and hmmm...oh yeah...getting some friggin' AC in their public buildings and stores etc....But then again one must keep up appearences and grin and bear it with our oh so stereotypical stiff upper lips. On a more serious note, It is not quite a bad in the UK as the Heat Wave of 1986, when there were Hose Pipe Bans and Car Washes had to close down etc...Other parts of Europe were worse and are so now. So maybe it'll pick up and become a proper full on, in your face, heat wave and not the Diet Coke of Heat Waves.

Well it's so dry the firefighters start watering the small park trees.
Power plants are getting problems due to extremly high energy consumption (Yes we have AC in some buildings. At least in institutions like hospitals and scientific institutes running all day).
The rivers are running dry (except the rhine).
The ozone values are getting very high that even the eyes start burning. Many old people pass out. Babies and old people are heaving dehydration problems.
The good news are that the wine will be of superior quality this year. With a little rain the quantity will be high, too.
So watch out for german white wine or red wine in your store next year .
I live in a flat under the roof and sweat like hell.
I was at an open air cinema at a medieval castle last night (showing LotR part I and part II for free). Open air cinema isn't something we are used to here in Muenster.
We've got a proverb here: "In Muenster it is raining or the church bells are ringing.". Not this year ! Really not this year !
OK, I wait 'till Wednesday. The temperatures are to raise 'till then and drop to a normal value thereafter. I hope the meteorologists are right with that.

Muenster Cheese !!! Mmmmm...Yummy !!!
Hey isoChron is that where "Muenster Cheese" comes from. You know, that White Semi-Soft Cheese with the Orange Rind on the edge. I really love that cheese, especially melted on a Bagel with a cup of coffee in the morning.....mmmm....We can only get it in really expensive Deli's in the UK but it's very popular in the USA where I used to get it all the time in Wal-Mart, when I lived in Florida. Sorry I know it's off topic but just out of interest....Cheers !!

That's not hot for most of Japan. In fact, Honshu (the main Japanese island that includes Tokyo) has had one of the coolest summers on record.shadow said:
The BBC has said repeatedly that the heatwave here in the UK is evidence of global warming. I expect they know (but have not widely reported) that places like Honshu is having near record lows. But why let the truth get in the way of a good story or jeremiad?
